"We are devastated. We are happy he is not in pain."
Whitney Frost, a mother of three, shared with her 1.7 million TikTok users that Harrison, her youngest son, had died at six years old after a long battle against a rare neurodegenerative disorder.
Infantile Neuroaxonal Dystrophy affects motor skills, voluntary muscle function, and the 6-year-old had a short life expectancy.
Frost broadcast the news via a TikTok video, on New Year's Day. This was after Harrison died that afternoon. The clip featured a short photo montage showing Harrison laughing and smiling with his family, with captions that assured that he had passed quickly without any suffering.
Another caption said, "We are devastated." We are happy that he is not in pain anymore.
Natalie, her 17-year-old oldest daughter, had kept fans updated on Harrison's health before his death. She said that Harrison had been doing well after recovering from a severe urinary tract infection.
Whitney is also the mother of Riley, her 8-year-old daughter who has neurodegenerative disease. Her viral success is due to her honest and vulnerable updates about her children and their medical conditions.
Frost spoke to TikTok two days after Harrison died to inform fans that Riley was not doing well and that he was suffering from a gastrointestinal bleeding, fever and other complications.
Frost's family had set up a GoFundMe page in September 2021 to explain that both of their children were born after "easy pregnancies, with no complications, and no indication that anything was amiss."
Riley was diagnosed in 2016 with INAD, after she lost her ability to walk and talk. Harrison, who had just turned one when he was diagnosed with INAD, was also tested. He wasn't showing any symptoms. It was the worst day of my life, finding out that INAD had been diagnosed in Harrison and his 2 younger siblings.
The crowdfunding page had received $18,000 of its $50,000 goal by Tuesday, January 4.
