This list is impressive, even though neither Taylor Swift or Beyonce have released their final numbers. Harry Styles recently concluded Love On Tour has cracked the top 10.
The summer of 2013 has seen some huge tours from Beyonce and Taylor Swift. These tours are clearly bringing in big bucks with sold-out shows all over the world and across the nation.
Billboard Boxscore has compiled a list based on the most successful tours in nearly four decades. Although Taylor and Bey's tour grosses for 2023 were not included on this list, early reports indicate that they will blow the 10 tours below to pieces.
It's not to say that the artists and their financial impact on the world aren't impressive. See which artists made it twice!
10. Roger Waters The Wall Live
Tour Gross: $458.673,798
Roger Waters, a former Pink Floyd band member, embarked on The Wall Live Tour in 2010. This was the first time since 1990 that any member had performed The Wall as a whole. Roger played 219 concerts in three years all over the world. At the end of his tour, Roger had earned $458 million. This would have been closer to $576 millions today if inflation were taken into account.
9. Coldplay - A Head Full of Dreams Tour
Tour Gross: $523.033,675
Coldplay's A Head Full of Dreams Tour began in 2016, and the group played 114 concerts around the globe over the next year and a quarter. The band earned over $523 millions at the end of its tour in late 2017.
8. The Rolling Stones No Filter Tour
Tour Gross: $546.515.799
The Rolling Stones began their No Filter Tour in 2017, which saw them perform 58 concerts around the globe. The group played fewer shows than the other artists in this list but still managed to perform for over 2.8 millions fans and bring in $546 million.
7. The Rolling Stones A Bigger Bang Tour
Tour Gross: $558.255.524
The Rolling Stones long career has earned the group two places on the list of the highest grossing tours. In 2005, the group began their A Bigger Bang Tour. They played 147 concerts around the globe. The tour ended in 2007 with over 4 million people attending. They earned $558 million, which would be $787 million in today's economic climate.
6. Coldplay - Music of the Spheres World Tour
Tour Gross: $561,000,000
Coldplay's Music of the Spheres World Tour is still in progress, but it has already become the most successful tour ever. The band has been performing to more than 5 million fans since 2022 and have scheduled dates through 2024. The tour has already brought in $561 millions and will likely bring in more at the end.
5. Guns N' Roses Not in this Lifetime Tour
Tour Gross: $584.200,000
The Guns N' Roses Not in This Lifetime... Tour was held in 2016. Axl Rose reunited with Slash and Duff McKagan. This was the first time the trio performed together since 1993. The band played 158 concerts over a period of three years, which is significantly more than they originally intended. The tour ended with a total of $584 million.
4. Harry Styles Love on Tour
Tour Gross: $590.300,000.
Harry Styles has just completed Love on Tour. The tour took him around the globe for almost two years. Harry Styles' Love on Tour began in September 2021 after several delays due to Covid. After 165 performances in front of over 4 million fans, Harry gave his final performance in July 2023. The tour grossed more than $590 million by the time it ended.
3. U2 - U2 360deg Tour
Tour Gross: $736 421,584
U2 toured the world for two years in support of No Line on The Horizon, their album , and performed in front of over seven million fans. The tour was a huge success. Over 110 concerts, the tour earned $736 million. When adjusted for inflation, that figure is well over $900 millions.
2. Ed Sheeran Tour
Tour Gross: $776.200,000
Ed Sheeran toured the world for two years, from 2017 to 2019, with the / Tour. Ed Sheeran had already broken many touring records by the time he finished his 255 concerts, including the record for the most tickets ever sold by an artist. He sold 8,796,567. The tour was also the most successful tour.
Stuart Camp, Ed's manager, said that "what Ed has achieved is truly incredible...to be in the ballpark of [U2] and spoken in the exact same sentence as a touring act such as that is very humble."
1. Elton John Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour
Tour Gross: 939,100,000
In 2018, Elton John embarked on his last tour, Farewell Yellow Brick Road. Elton John performed 330 concerts for 6 million fans in the following years. This included a Covid break. Elton's tour ended with a total of $939 million. This broke Ed Sheeran’s record.
