New Idea reported that John Travolta wasn't the committed Scientologist he was in mid-July. Travolta began to question the teachings of this controversial religion after Kelly Preston, his wife, died from breast cancer. Friends of Travolta believed that he planned to quit the Church of Scientology.

An insider told the tabloid that friends are saying that Travolta is ready to talk about Scientology now that the church may be splitting. It would provide him with closure--and it would be the church's worst nightmare." It seemed likely that Travolta would follow in the footsteps of Leah Remini, Laura Prepon and others who left Scientology over the past decade. The fallout from Travolta's high-ranking position in the church could be devastating.

John is likely to have been privy to many things because of his identity. The tipter said that he could reveal a lot of scandals that have plagued church over the years. He could reveal classified information about the church. John could expose extraordinary church information. Tom Cruise is the only Scientologist who could compare to Travolta. The Mission: Impossible star wasn't pleased to hear about Travolta’s dissension.

The source said that Tom and John had always been friendly, but their relationship grew more intense when Tom was told John was leaving the church. "Tom didn’t change John’s mind about leaving, John made no promises about keeping silent, and John didn’t make any changes to his position." The insider added that Tom is "next to Tom, he’s the face Scientology. He could bring down the entire church by himself. John is an expert in his field. Tom and other people should be anxious about what might come out.

John Travolta Could 'Spell the End' Of Scientology

In Touch published a similar report shortly after Preston died claiming that Travolta was now open to Scientology. That tabloid also claimed Travolta was "breaking away" from Scientology. Just a few weeks later New Idea took a look at the story and claimed Travolta was "breaking free" from the religion.

Soon after, OK! According to reports, Travolta was "distancing" himself from the Church of Scientology. Although all tabloids reached the same conclusion they had different reasons. Travolta has not commented on the rumors in any way since the reports were published. John Travolta, as far as we know is still a Scientologist.
