The woman allegedly tried to stop a man from assaulting her friend before both of them were reportedly pushed into a ravine and fell nearly 165 foot near the German Castle that served as the inspiration for Disney’s Sleeping Beauty.
A woman has died following an alleged assault on two tourists near to a picturesque German castle.
A man from the United States was arrested on Wednesday after he allegedly lured away two women and assaulted them in front of the famous Neuschwanstein Castle -- the castle that inspired the Disney classic "Sleeping Beauty".
The suspect (30 years old, not named) allegedly met two women (also unnamed), ages 21 and 22, near the Marienbrucke. This bridge offers panoramic views of Neuschwanstein. The Guardian reports that the police said the three went to a viewing area, and the suspect then attacked the 21 year old.
Authorities claim that the man choked the woman's friend, pushed her when she intervened, and then tried to sexually abuse the other woman before pushing her down a similar slope. She fell 165 feet and landed near her friend.
Two people were airlifted out of the ravine to hospital. One woman, aged 21, died the next day. The other is still hospitalized.
The suspect fled the scene, but was arrested shortly after. A video from the scene shows police handcuffing a man in a baseball cap, jeans and a T-shirt.
The suspect is still being held in custody, and he has been charged with murder, attempted-murder, and sexual offense.
