It will be open against a Transformers movie and one week before Marvel's Thunderbolts.
Twister, the 1996 blockbuster movie, is getting a long-awaited sequel. "Twisters" will be in theaters this summer 2024.
Universal Pictures has announced that the film will open on July 19, 2024. The movie is currently facing serious competition from "Transformers: A New Generation", which opens the same weekend, and Marvel's "Thunderbolts," which follows on July 26.
Lee Issac Chung, the director of "Minari", won an award for his film. The sequel will be directed by Lee Issac Chung. The screenplay was written by Mark L. Smith (the writer of Leonardo DiCaprio’s "The Revenant").
Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton played the roles of storm-chasing scientists collecting data about powerful tornadoes in the original "Twister" movie. Jan De Bont directed the film and executive produced it with Steven Spielberg. The screenplay was written by Michael Crichton, "Jurassic Park", author. It was a huge success and earned over $494 million worldwide.
Deadline reported that plot details are still being worked out, but the second film will likely focus on Dr. Jo Harding's (Hunt), and Bill Harding’s (Paxton), daughter. She inherited her parents love for storm-chasing from her parents.
Hunt may return but Paxton, who suffered complications from surgery, has unfortunately passed away at the age 61.
A family representative released a statement saying that Bill Paxton had died from complications following surgery. "A loving husband, father, Bill started his career in Hollywood in the art department. He went on to be a prolific actor and filmmaker for over 40 years. All who knew Bill felt his passion for the arts and felt his warmth and unwavering energy.
