Ty Pennington was taken to the ICU from the Barbie premier's red carpet after he "couldn't breathe" when he awoke.

Ty Pennington's week was a whirlwind. It began with his attendance at one of the most important premieres of the season... and ended in the hospital.

In an Instagram post posted on Friday, the HGTV star revealed that he had emergency surgery when a sore neck turned out to be much more serious.

The last week was interesting, from the red carpet to the ICU. He began by telling everyone that he was "okay" now, but "still recovering." He explained what had happened, trying to shed some light on his "absence" from social media.

After attending the Barbie Pink Carpet Premiere on Sunday, he said he flew out to Colorado on Monday to film. He woke up Tuesday morning at 4am, and was barely able to breathe.

He continued, "It turns out that the sore throat that I had been suffering from for a month was an abscess. It had become so large that it was blocking my airway." The next thing I knew, I was intubated. I was then flown to Denver's ICU.

On Wednesday, he had surgery and was discharged from the ICU Thursday.

He said that the staff at St. Anthony's Hospital in Lakewood, CO and Summit Health in Frisco took such good care of him. His health scare was "a great reminder" to LISTEN when your body is telling you something.

He shared a photo with the hashtag #JustHappyToBeHere, before sharing the note that he wrote when he was apparently on "heavy" sedatives. This proved he was still "in the right frame-of-mind."

He was most concerned about putting on his Speedo.
