"I had a tasty mushroom dish. I didn't know that the mushrooms were hallucinogenic. Later, I found out."

Janet Yellen, US treasury secretary, has apparently started a psychedelic movement in China. She ate hallucinogenic fungi accidentally during a trip to Beijing in July.

"I was with a large group and the person who had arranged our meal did the ordering," Yellen said to CNN. I had a wonderful mushroom dish. I didn't know that the mushrooms were hallucinogenic. Later, I found out."

This dish is called Jian shou Qing ("see hands blue") and uses Lanmaoa Asiatica mushrooms, which are hallucinogenic.

CNN spoke to Dr. Peter Mortimer, a botanist at the Kunming Institute of Botany in China this week. He confirmed that "Lanmaoa mushroom are poisonous because they can be hallucinogenic."

Mortimer added, "However scientists have yet to identify the compounds that cause the hallucinations." It's still a mystery and the majority of evidence is anecdotal. My friend hallucinated three days after eating them by mistake.

Yellen, however, insisted to CNN, amid a fitful laughter: "I can assure you that none were affected by mushrooms."

"I read in a book that mushrooms have no effect if they are properly cooked, and I am sure that this restaurant did it perfectly." We all enjoyed the mushrooms and the restaurant. None of us had any negative effects from eating them.

Social media in China reported that Yellen's consumption of the dish caused many restaurants to run out of it.

The Guardian reported that the restaurant chain she visited, called In and Out, claimed on Weibo that there had been such a high demand for their food that they were forced to reorganize: "Two week after that meal, colleagues from headquarters who worked in branding, personnel or finance were reassigned." Collectively transferred to another position and became mushroom cutters."
