The Bravolebrity said, "Even though Vanderpump Rules is a part of unscripted TV, it's not an excuse to stay silent."
Lala Kent, star of "Vanderpump Rules", is the second celebrity to publicly announce their cancellation from the MTV Movie & TV Awards in 2023.
The 32-year old Bravolebrity shared a statement with The Hollywood Reporter in which she announced that she would stay home to show solidarity with the striking writers. Kent, along with her "Vanderpump Rules' co-stars Ariana Maloney, Katie Maloney, and Scheana Shary, was nominated for Best Reality onscreen Team. The show is also up for Best Reality Series. She was also set to present at this year's awards ceremony.
She wrote: "I'm so grateful to my fans for voting, but I decided to stay at home to support the many writers who work hard and deserve fair compensation."
She concluded: "Although Vanderpump Rules is a part of the unscripted TV sector, this is no excuse for me not to speak up and continue as if nothing is at stake for all writers and their families." We must protect our creators, and I hope that you will stand with me as well as many others in this fight until we find a solution (hopefully soon).
The statement from the "Give Them Lala' podcast host follows Drew Barrymore’s departure. She was originally set to host, but backed out of the show on Thursday due to the strike. Barrymore spoke out in a Variety statement about her decision not to attend Sunday's award show and why she feels it is important to support writers.
The host of a daytime talk show shared, "I listened to the writers and to respect them I will stop hosting the MTV Movie & TV Awards Live in solidarity with their strike." "Everything that we love and celebrate about movies and TV is a result of the writers' creation. As long as a solution cannot be reached, I will wait. I'll watch from home with you and I hope that you join me. "I thank MTV for being some of the most amazing partners I've ever had."
The 48-year old actress has agreed to host 2024's MTV Movie & TV Awards.
She said: "I am so excited to be part of the show next year when I will truly celebrate all that MTV has done. It is a show where fans can choose who gets awarded and it is inclusive."
Variety reported that Barrymore may still appear in the show, as she already pre-taped portions. In her absence, however, the show will be without a host.
As scheduled, the MTV Movie & TV Awards will air live on Sunday from the Barker Hangar Los Angeles. The event will not have a red carpet, but the Writers Guild of America has announced that they will picket.
