After a standoff between police and the suspect, a suspect believed to have attacked two people in a single day surrendered to them Wednesday morning

Authorities in Los Angeles claim that terrifying video captures the moments leading to a fatal stabbing that claimed 17-year old Xavier Chavarin's life ( above right).

Last Friday, the Woodrow Wilson High School student was attacked as he waited outside King Torta in El Sereno to be picked up by his mother.

Detectives from Los Angeles Police Department's Homicide Unit released surveillance footage on Tuesday of the events leading up to the attack. They also asked the public for help in identifying the suspect.

After leaving his car, the man in the video walks through a parking lot wearing a leather jacket. He then approaches the teenager and appears to pull out large knives.

Police say that the suspect then stabbed Chavarin several times in the back. The suspect then fled from the scene before Chavarin died in the restaurant.

Five hours later, police believe that the same suspect attacked a man aged 33. It happened around 8:55pm. Authorities say that the suspect attacked the victim multiple times and did not speak. He was wearing the same clothes as the attacker in the earlier attack. The second victim was able to survive.

"It breaks mine, the fact they just took him away form me," Xavier’s mother Laura Frias said to NBC4. "I don’t know what I should say. I am so devastated. He was my love, my everything."

Friends, family and school remember Chavarin as a "great brother" and straight A student who was about to graduate with distinctions.

Wednesday morning saw police enter an Alhambra home and confront the suspect in the attack. The unidentified man eventually fled the house and surrendered.

After the surrender, Commander German Hurtado of LAPD stated that he didn't want to "taint" the investigation.

Hurtado, Hurtado's mother, told KTLA that the suspect had suffered from mental illness before he was arrested.

He said, "Someone who is on the loose with a mental illness and is picking apart random citizens is an extreme concern to us, it's dangerous for the community,". "We want it to be dealt with as quickly as possible.
