Video: Storm Chasers Thankful to Be Alive After Getting 'Trapped Inside a Tornado'

In the video, a group of men breaks down in tears after a powerline that crashed to the floor in front of them has trapped them in a powerful tornado's path.

The team of storm chasers is just glad to be alive, after coming too close for comfort.

Tanner Charles posted video of the terrifying incident that occurred in Lewistown in Illinois in April to YouTube. Charles called it "the most intense and traumatic experience of my life"; he also said that the incident took place in April, Lewistown, Illinois.

He continued, "I'm grateful we survived." This is some of the most intense video I've ever shot during my entire career as a chaser. "I wish we hadn't had to go through all of this to get the footage, but we did."

The 8-minute video starts with a warning to viewers that it was filmed "by professional storm chasers who have 14+ years' experience", telling them not to "attempt by yourself."

The video then cuts to Charles with his team in a car tracking a tornado far away. Both hail and a thunderstorm alarm are heard before one member of the crew announces, "It is coming straight at us. We are directly downstream of it."

Charles is warned to be "cautious" as they approach the tornado, because the funnel cloud "is coming towards us." The storm is approaching and they are on their "escape route." However, the wind blows down power lines in front of them, one of which hits the earth, sending sparks everywhere.

"Lord Jesus please protect us in Jesus' name" "I don't even know where the tornado is, but I don’t like it," said the driver before the crew looked behind them to see the twister barreling towards them. They debate whether to get out of the car and hide in a ditch, but decide to stay inside the vehicle.

The tornado is passing over them as they scream and pray in terror. Wind, rain, and mud are filling the car.

After a few moments, the tornado passes them completely. One of them shouts "Please, Lord, make it happen!" before another admits he is in a "complete state of shock" about what has happened. One of them says, "The most important thing is that we are alive," before the driver begins to cry.

Tanner surveys the damages as he gets out of his car. He can see the dented roof and the blown-out back window. It is now also on the roadside. The tornado may have moved the car. As someone apologizes to him for his navigational issues, he too begins to sob.

The National Weather Service reported that a hail and tornado event occurred in the area on 4 April. The National Weather Service reported that a tornado and hail event occurred in the area on April 4.

The YouTube post received around 50K views. A cutdown was sent to X. This version generated almost 18 million views thanks to the person who shared it, writing "I'm Sorry but what did they Expect ???"
