Cody Allen Wade recorded a message for his mother before killing her lover, but forgot the hang-up. Now, this recording has been released, which helped him get 85 years behind bars.

The recording shows the moment that a 33-year old Indiana man killed his mother's lover after he forgot to turn off his phone when leaving a message.

Cody Allen Wade, a former public safety officer, was convicted in August of one count of murder and resisting law enforcement. He also received two charges of battery that resulted in bodily harm to the official. He received 85 years of prison. As part of his sentence earlier this month, Wade was given a sentencing increase of 15 years for being deemed to be a habitual offenders.

Wade was arrested in June 2020 for the murder Carl Haviland's mother's lover.

Wade had left a barbecue and walked home to his mother -- , allegedly saying to another person that he was "going to kill someone." The prosecution claims that he called his mother and left her a message, but did not hang up afterward. Due to this, the audio of the murder was recorded.

Warning! The audio below contains graphic and disturbing material.

Fox News Digital has obtained a copy. It is alleged that Wade told a neighbor, "I'm going to catch a charge," before uttering a racial epithet.

"Carl, are you there?" Wade is heard exclaiming before he says something about an stab. In the background you can hear his mother screaming, "He did nothing!" Cody, tell me what Cody did!

Wade shouted, "Hope that he dies!" I hope he's dead! ", while telling someone 9-1-1. According to Fox News, Wade told his neighbor via the prosecutor’s office that he had murder charges.

Wade was accused by the prosecution of stabbing Haviland in the chest five times before his mother. The recording was shown to the jury at his trial. Clay County Superior Court judge Robert A. Pell stated that Wade had "taunted and slapped" the victim following the stabbing. The doc also said Wade was bi-polar.

"All murders gruesome." "I think that what made this case so special was the fact the defendant had accidentally recorded himself during the murder. We were able hear everything," Clay County prosecutor Emily Clarke stated, via Tri-City Herald. "There was taunting." The defendant made racial insults and said horrible things to the victim.

Wade , according to, said "My remorse was real" before being sentenced -- adding that "I also lost my friend on that night."

Haviland's child, James, told Fox News Digital that he felt "relieved," and called the sentence "adequate."

He said that it was nice not to have to worry anymore about what would happen in the future, or whether the guy would walk on a technicality. I'm happy that everything is now taken care of.
