What NSYNC Members Have Said About Their Split

What NSYNC Members Have Said About Their Split

Some people said that the breakup is Tearin' Up My Heart, while others thought it was Bye bye.

In 2002, *NSYNCwas on the peak of their fame. They shocked fans when they announced they would be taking a break.

After the release of Celebrity and two stadium tours that brought in millions, the band informed fans that they needed a rest.

"The break that we are on was a deliberate move. We were all ready and willing to do this. "Performing in stadiums for 50,000 people every night takes a lot out of you," Justin Timberlake said to the NY Post. I was only 14 when we began, and have been on tour for seven years. "The time was right, we were all in the exact same zone."

As the hiatus dragged on, the fans began to question if they would ever return. Justin began a successful solo career, while his bandmates assumed the band would soon resume recording. Justin left the band in 2004, but the group didn't officially split until then.

The band has reunited two decades after they split. Fans are curious to see what the boy band will do next. They have a new song and they're making their first award-show appearance in many years.

Here's what *NSYNC said about the split...

Joey Fatone

Joey Fatone recently shared his thoughts on the breakup of the band. He said he wasn't shocked when the group broke up, but was surprised when Justin started a solo career. Joey Fatone says that he wishes he knew Justin was not planning to return so he wouldn't have wasted so much time.

Joey said to Yahoo Entertainment that she was "not blindsided by the split; I was blindsided more so when he came out with music, and didn't know he would go and do a real album/tour." It was more like, "Hey, let's do some music and then get back together."

He added, "We thought that he would just go on tour and come back after [Justified] Tour. When he first went on tour, and things began to go, I said, "All right. I'll do Broadway." That's when Broadway happened. I began dancing with the stars. "I started doing my own thing and hosting TV shows, and that's what led me... in that route... My career and my lifestyle led me elsewhere, and I am happy and satisfied with it."

Lance Bass

Lance expressed a similar sentiment to Joey. He explained that he was not only upset Justin left the band, but also that it took a long time for him to be informed. The singer claims that the label was aware that Justin would not be returning for at least three years, but failed to inform the other members of the band. This led Lance to reject other opportunities.

"I never had a bad relationship with the guys...I was disappointed that not only Justin left the band but that the whole team -- the record label, the management -- knew. The band knew for three years that it was all over before telling me. "I've been sitting in the studio for three years, getting ready for my new album while everyone else is moving on," Lance told the In You Podcast.

JC Chasez

JC believes that *NSYNC split "organically". JC thought that the band members had been focusing on different projects, such as clothing lines and acting career.

"After doing something for a while, you start to get into a routine and new things begin to spark your curiosity. You need new brain-food." We felt we had run out of ideas for what we were trying to do and decided that we would try something new.

Later, he added: "You think, 'OK we've already done that, we have done that, we have done that. I don't think we can do anything else. Then, everyone was experimenting with different ideas. Lance worked on becoming an astronaut, while Chris played with ideas for clothing lines. Joey wanted to make movies, Justin wanted a solo career and I wanted to be in the studio. "We were all more interested in our thoughts."

Chris Kirkpatrick

Chris admits he was not quite ready to let *NSYNC go. Chris claims that, despite what his bandmates may have said about him, he did not feel like he had any new direction in life and leaving the very regimented lifestyle of *NSYNC was hard.

"I didn't know if it was time to go. In my 20s and early 30s I was in a touring band that toured the world daily. The schedule is on the floor. You have a photoshoot, a meet and greet, a radio appearance, a television appearance, and a concert this day. You wake up one morning and find nothing. Chris told Huffington Post that you're thinking, "Oh man, I don't know where to go."

Justin Timberlake

Justin claims that the split of *NSYNC shouldn't be a surprise. Justin said that everyone was planning to go in their own direction during the temporary break that led to their breakup.

Justin stated in an interview conducted by Zane Lowe, Apple Music Essentials. "At the time, everyone had dreams of doing something else and we talked about it. It was my dream to make my own record since I was a child.

Justin admitted in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter that everything was too big and out-of-control, and that he felt he had to do things his way.

"I felt that the stadium tour was just too big. The snowball fight started out as fun, but quickly turned into an avalanche. "I was also growing out of it," said he to the outlet.

He added, "I felt that I cared about the music more than some other people in the band." "I felt that I had other music to make, and I needed to listen to my heart."
