Why Brendan Fraser Just Apologized to The City of San Francisco

Why Brendan Fraser Just Apologized to The City of San Francisco

"Oprah was interrupted by a special news report involving helicopters"

Brendan Fraser is sincerely sorry for San Francisco.

During a conversation with SF Gate at the 45th Mill Valley Film Festival the star of "Whale" tried to apologize for a scene in his 1997 film "George of the Jungle" which featured a stunt on the Bay Bridge.

"When we were doing George of the Jungle," the 53-year old actor said, accidentally naming the wrong Bridge. That means Disney suspended a mannequin by a parachutist from the uprights.

He said that the stunt caused a huge traffic jam. He continued, "It brought traffic at a standstill along either side of the bridge." My trailer was in a lot on the opposite side. I can only remember seeing the Golden Gate Bridge. This dummy parachutist is hanging from it. Oprah was on TV, and Oprah was interrupted by a special news report that featured helicopters reporting that a parachute was hanging from the bridge.

Fraser said, "And now, wait a second, I'm going -- I'm looking over the TV and helicopters -- somebody didn't get a permit. Someone's going to be in trouble with the mayor’s office. "I can only accept my apologies for this."

The actor later accepted a lifetime achievement award at the event and retold his story after being honored on stage. He said again that he was sorry and added, "So that's it, my mistake, it won’t happen again."

Fraser is receiving tremendous praise for his performance as "The Whale", with Oscar buzz buzzing ahead of the awards season.

Brendan plays a 600-pound, reclusive writing instructor who struggles to reconnect with his daughter in the Darren Aronofsky movie. Based on the 2012 Samuel D. Hunter play, the movie also features Hunter writing the screenplay.

December 9th, "The Whale" will be in theaters
