The actress, who appeared on the Thursday episode of 'Live with Kelly and Mark', shared her thoughts regarding her daughter, 17, following in her footsteps as a model. She explained why she "fought" initially against it and ultimately "gave in."

She wants [to be a model] and she does little things here and then. She's 17. She's 17.

Shields was asked how she felt about her daughter's desire to join the modeling industry. She replied, "I fought against it for so many years." It's a completely different industry than it used to be.

She continued, "She is interested in runway and that's brutal. And backstage, it's just brutal." "I never did runway. "I don't believe I would have been capable of handling it."

The "Blue Lagoon's" star decided to support Grier in her career goals, but she did have some "rules", when it came to her entering the modeling industry.

Shields stated, "I had to finally give up and say 'Okay. If you are going to do this, a. I won't be your manager. You will be working with an agency. You will have a strong work ethic. You'll have to listen to me, because it won't be easy. "Those are my rules and you will be going to college."

Shields said of her late mother Terri, who she had a complex relationship with, "My mom was manager and we were glued together, which was probably how I survived because you couldn't reach me."
