Why Dolly Parton Declined Kate Middleton Tea Party Invite

Why Dolly Parton Declined Kate Middleton Tea Party Invite

The Jolene singer was in London to promote Rockstar, her debut rock album.

Two for tea? Dolly Parton is not for.

In an interview with BBC Radio 2 that aired Saturday, the singer of "Jolene", revealed that she was forced to decline an invitation to a tea party from Kate Middleton while in London.

Parton, who's in town to promote her upcoming album "Rockstar," said that her team was too busy planning her U.K. visit for her.

Parton stated that she was "so sorry" about not being able to attend the tea party with Kate, as her team had "all this stuff planned" for her busy London trip.

Parton called the gesture "very nice and sweet," but joked that she didn't accept it because the Princess of Wales wouldn't promote her rock album.

"She wouldn't promote my rock album so I had no choice but to say no!" The 77-year old singer snorted. "But I do hope she hears me, though!"

Parton's "Rockstar" album, her first rock music release, was inspired by the 2022 induction of Rock and Roll Hall of Fame - another honor that she initially tried to reject. Parton initially said on social media she did not feel that she had "earned" the honor, but she eventually accepted it.

Parton met the late Queen Elizabeth II and other members of the Royal Family when she performed for the Silver Jubilee celebrations in 1977. Parton hopes to meet Kate someday.

She told the outlet, "One day I will be able do that." Wouldn't it have been wonderful?
