The actress was asked about memes that her ex had created and she explained why they don't allow their children to use social media.
Jennifer Garner avoids any media coverage about her family, including Ben Affleck.
Stellar interviewed her about her boundaries ahead of the new Apple TV+ series, "The Last Thing He Told Me." Stellar asked her 50-year old actress: "Your ex-husband is the subject of various memes. What do you think of this?
"I work really hard to not see us in the media. Garner replied, "It doesn't make my feel good even if there's something positive about one of us."
Then she added, "I just try not to forget that I'm always out there in some way, and the exact same with anyone who I love." I don't need anyone in my family to be made into a meme," before acknowledging, "Although he's certainly quite meme-worthy. Yes!"
Affleck spoke previously about the tabloid coverage that his first relationship with Jennifer Lopez generated, as well his divorce from Garner. He told Howard Stern that "Me and their mother are celebrities and it's hard." Let's not bulls--- one another. This is a cross to bear. This is an albatross.
He said that a lot "f---ing terrible lies" were printed about him during the couple's divorce. Calling them "bulls ---,"", he then explained his point of view on Garner.
"The truth is that we took our time and made the right decision. We grew apart. Our marriage didn't work. It happens. It's someone I love and respect, but to whom it's not right for me to be married anymore," stated Affleck. We had children so we tried and failed. We both felt that this was not the ideal model for marriage for our children.
Garner was also asked about how she helps Affleck's children navigate social media. They share three children: Violet (17 years old), Seraphina (14 years), and Samuel (11).
"I don’t know if my actions are right, but I won’t let my children use social media. I told them that if they can show me evidence that social media makes kids happier, then we could have that conversation. She explained that she can show them articles about how social media is harmful to children's health until then.
"Not that they don’t have access online to all sorts of information. They don't need to have social media accounts, but that doesn't mean they aren't engaging with the content on Instagram, TikTok, and other platforms. She continued, "They're not doing it on their account, on the devices they own." It's only a temporary solution. My oldest daughter is 17 years old and tells me that she's very grateful that I set that boundary.
Garner admitted then that the future was going to be difficult because what you set for the oldest will not hold up when you reach the youngest.
"The last thing he told me" will premiere with two episodes on Friday April 14th. Then, one episode per week through May 19th on Apple TV+.
