I just wanted someone to feel less alone.
Madison Beer wants to make sure that nobody feels alone. She shares her mental health experiences in order to help her fans.
Madison appeared on "Good Morning America," to discuss her mental health journey, and to explain why she wanted to share her experience. According to the publisher, Beer discusses her experiences with dealing with a nude picture leak as a teen, "battling with suicidal feelings" and "reckoning online with mass hatred" in the new book.
The 24-year-old singer said, "When I was growing up, it was always told me to put on a brave front and not let anyone see that things got to you or that you were tired or wanted a break." As I've grown older, I would like to let people know that it is okay to take a rest. It's okay if you're overwhelmed. You can say no, and take time to yourself.
Beer replied that she "let it out" because she felt so alone during her own struggles.
Beer revealed that he has a private Instagram account where he talks to his core fans. "I'll meet them and they will tell me that things like opening up about mental illness stuff and doing such things has helped them. So I thought why not make it more widespread and not keep it just for this small number of people?"
She added that music was also a "throughline and silver lining in her life."
In an interview conducted with People in February, Beer explained the inspiration behind her memoir as well as why she decided to share her story now.
She said, "I wanted to write the book because I thought that sharing the ups-and-downs of my life could help others navigate and relate."
Madison added, "I'm hoping that by sharing my journey I can make someone think twice about putting themselves behind a computer to be cruel or to poke fun of someone else. I hope we can all find the strength to stand together and treat each other the same way we want to be treated.
The Half of It will be released April 25.
