Woman Who Found Husband Shot to Death After Alarming Text Message Claims Police 'Failed to Respond'

First to arrive on the scene, according to reports, was the victim's spouse. She found the body of her husband before the police arrived.

"911," "Send Please!"

These were the last texts Talija Campbell got from her husband Qualin Campbell last Friday. They included a picture of him in his car, with another man, and his location. ( to the right ) This indicated that Qualin was held hostage.

Talija's first reaction was shock. She texted him: "What is wrong? What is it you want me to do? Before reportedly contacting police, Talija reportedly said "Send me your location again." Talija's lawyer and Talija both claim that authorities "failed" to respond to a 911 call which could have saved the man's life.

Campbell told AP that she had called Colorado Springs Police Department shortly after 1pm to tell the dispatcher that she thought her husband was being held as a hostage. She then described his car and his location. She repeated this information to another local dispatcher who, according to Campbell, told her that they would investigate. According to the AP Campbell felt that there was no urgency, so she went herself.

She told the outlet that she was the first to respond and immediately recognized the car, where he was slumped next to an unidentified man. Her lawyer shared a graphic photo of Qualin, who was covered in blood from being shot in his abdomen. A gun was reportedly on the laps of two men. Campbell was not able to feel her pulse.

Talija stated that her husband's nephew then called the police to report a shooting death. The police blotter confirms that they were dispatched at 2:09pm for an investigation. They found two dead males in the location, which Talija’s lawyer Harry Daniels claims was less than a half mile away from CSPD HQ. Daniels said that no law officers arrived until Campbell died from bleeding out after a gunshot wound to the abdomen, about an hour later.

He added, "The Colorado Springs Police Department, and El Paso County, can make any excuse they want. But the facts are simple. This was a hostage-taking situation in which Qualin Campbell begged for his life. His wife called 911. The police were less that a mile from him, but they never responded." Let's be clear. "If the police do not respond to a hostage crisis, we are all at risk."

The blotter board for this incident contains all the information that is available at this time. A spokesperson for CSPD said to KKTV that they would not comment on ongoing investigations. The blotter concluded that "At this time, there are currently no threats to our community."

Talija has created a GoFundMe page to raise money for her family. This includes her two daughters.

"Qualin is a dedicated father, son and brother. He was also devoted to his wife. She wrote: "Qualin Campbell tragically lost his life as a result of a senseless violent act." "Talija, Qualin and their seven-year marriage is a beautiful story of love. She and her two daughters depended on Qualin for their family's needs. "His family is having to deal with the sudden and untimely death of their father, husband and provider."

Talija recalled Qualin's "unmatched" commitment to serve others and his "unmatched" selflessness. She concluded that "Qualin’s family is distraught and will need to come together to deal with this tragedy, and the emotional, financial and physical effects of him being taken away from them."
