In 2011, shockwaves rolled across Hollywood as news broke that famed action star Arnold Schwarzenegger had fathered a child out of wedlock with the family’s housekeeper. In the aftermath, Arnold’s wife Maria Shriver filed for divorce, but only now, after ten and a half years are the two officially single.

Why did it take so long for the power couple to finally call it quits? There are several factors, and for a couple as wildly successful and high profile as Schwarzenegger and Shriver, none of those issues could be resolved quickly. However, everything is finally settled. Here’s why it took so long for Arnold and Maria to divorce.
