11 Unexpected Clauses That Ended Up In Actor's Contracts

I put a clause of death in my contract after watching that movie!

The fine print of a contract contains important information, as well as unexpected clauses.

The contract presented to celebrities when they sign up to be in a film or TV show can make or break the decision. While negotiating, stars and studios often add some pretty bizarre demands to the contract. These contract clauses include some interesting requests, from mandatory golf sessions to custom made wigs.

Find out what stars have in their contracts.

1. Samuel L. Jackson

Samuel L. Jackson says he is a "hard taskmaster" for some directors. This is evident in his contracts. In all his contracts, the actor states that he gives directors the option to "go golfing twice per week", as well as having a say on what films he makes or doesn't make.

"I am at the point where I'm able to say, 'Uh you know, this is not going to appear in the film, right? We've already got it. We got it when did this, that and the other. He told the NY Times, "I'm not going do that.

2. Queen Latifah

Queen Latifah starred in the 1996 film "Set It Off" where her character was tragically killed. She decided to not be killed in any future films after the movie ended. She added a "death" clause to her contract.

"I added a death provision to my contract after I saw that film. I thought, "Wait a minute. I'm dying too much in these films and if i die, I can't appear in the sequel." No more dying. That's it!" She said it on "Late Night With Seth Meyers."

3. Kit Harington

Kit Harington's contract stated that he was not allowed to cut his own hair while he was playing Jon Snow in "Game of Thrones". He said before the show ended that he was eager to cut his hair and be less recognizable.

He told Entertainment Weekly that he would like to enjoy the obscurity and cut his hair in order to become less recognisable as the character. "I want to do other things and have a totally new look," he said at the time. "I cannot go into my new role looking the same. "This role was brilliant but I will need to get rid Jon Snow."

4. Uma Thurman

In 2008, Uma Thurman had been set to star in the film "Eloise In Paris," however it never got made. The production company was instead sued for "failure" to fulfill an agreement to pay the company who was supposed to pay Uma 4.5 million dollars. Uma's contract, which contained several interesting demands, was published online during the litigation.

Documents obtained by Express show that Uma asked for a hotel suite with three bedrooms and three mobile phones, which she would use during filming. She asked for "the most favorable dressing facilities" and the chance to purchase any of her costumes in the film with a 50% discount.

5. Vin Diesel

The three co-stars of the "Fast & Furious franchise" - Vin Diesel, Jason Statham and Dwayne Johnston – had to find a way for them to be perceived as equals in front of the camera. Members of the production team said that each actor was bound by contract to limit how many punches he could throw in a fight. Vin even tried to devise a system of points that would count the number of punches and kicks each actor received in a given scene.

Michael Fottrell, the producer of the show, confirmed that the fights had been choreographed to ensure that no one was the ultimate loser.

6. Danny Trejo

Danny Trejo's contract stipulates that he must always play the villain on screen. The actor confirmed that he demands that his character be killed in any film or television show where he is playing a criminal. This will teach viewers that criminality and bad behavior don't pay.

Rebel Wilson

Rebel Wilson's contract stated that she was not allowed to lose any weight while working on "Pitch Perfect" films. She says that despite wanting to lose weight, she was unable to do so.

Rebel told the "Call Her Daddy Podcast" that she couldn't drop a lot of weight because her contract for the movie required it. "You cannot lose more than ten pounds or gain more weight than ten pounds. You must stay within the contract's limits."

8. Mark Wahlberg

Mark Wahlberg and Anne Hathaway were set to star in "Silver Linings Playbook" before Bradley Cooper took the lead. Mark's contract, which didn't work out, stated that, in the event Anne dropped out of the movie, he was entitled to $900,000. This was reportedly done to protect Mark from any box office losses if Anne were replaced by a lesser-known actress. David O. Russell cast Bradley, a close friend of Mark, because his salary was lower.

Matt Muzio, David's collaborator, told TheWrap that Brad Cooper was chosen because they believed he would be more hungry and work cheaper.

9. Julianna Margulies

Julianna Margulies had her contract written that she must wear a wig onscreen whenever she appears. Julianna Margulies' decision was allegedly based on her desire to appear completely different than her "ER" Nurse Carol Hathaway character. The wig was made in London at a high price, and then flown to Vancouver for the first episode.

10. Jack Nicholson

Jack Nicholson, a huge Lakers fan, allegedly included it in his contract when filming "Batman." He also demanded extra time to film so that he could go to the home games of his basketball team. This clause was a problem when the filming set moved from California back to England. The games were recorded and sent to Jack instead of him sitting courtside. No one was allowed to discuss the score before Jack had watched the game.

11. Quvenzhane Wallis

Quvenzhane's contract for "Annie", which she signed at the age of 10, had very specific requirements. Quvenzhane Wallis' contract stipulated that, in addition to ensuring she had a close-to-top billing in the movie, she would also have veto authority over any bloopers before they were released. She would also get three dresses to choose between for each promotional appearance, and keep the one that she chose.
