Anthony Hopkins: From Caitlyn Jennifer to Oscar De La Hoya
Some celebrity parents admit to not being present in the lives of their children.
Many of these famous parents regret their actions and want to make amends. Others don't even want a relationship.
What these celebrities had to say on raising their children...
1. Oscar De La Hoya
Oscar De La Hoya has admitted that he was "absent father" when his children, including Atiana De La Hoya, were growing up. He says that he is grateful to her mother Shanna M. Moakler and Travis Barker for raising her.
You know, I did not raise my children. It's important to give credit when it is due. I'm glad that Barker was a father figure to my daughter," he said in Entertainment Tonight.
He said, "I must be grateful to Shanna for being a mother to Atiana...And that she knows my place, in essence, you know?" My place - I am a proud father. Again, I am grateful for all they have done. Barker in particular. He has clearly stepped up. He's a really nice guy. "I have the highest respect for him."
2. Caitlyn Jenner
Caitlyn has a complex relationship with her older kids, despite appearing to be the perfect parent in Keeping up With The Kardashians. Caitlyn Jenner admits to being largely absent in the 1980s from the lives her children Burt Casey Brandon Brody. She shares these children with Chrystie crownover and Linda Thompson.
Caitlyn , when asked about her struggle with gender identity, said, "I was really struggling in the formative years of their lives. "I told all the boys that I had done a bad job after the fact. "I apologized to them for that."
Brandon, Caitlyn’s son, said it was hard to cope with the lost years but that they all looked to the future.
"Missing, you know, an important time in our lives, is probably still the hardest thing to cope with. We are trying to not look back. Brandon said, "We're only looking forward."
3. Bill Hudson
Bill Hudson's relationship with his kids has been strained over the years. This is especially true with his daughter Kate Hudson, and his son Oliver Hudson. Kate claims that Bill Hudson disappeared from her life shortly after their mother Goldie Hawn split. Bill went so far as to deny the siblings and say that he no longer recognized Oliver or Kate as his own.
Kate says that while she does not understand her father's reasoning she would never want to make things worse.
She said that she did not understand. "That must have been painful for him, and he has to have his reasons. But you reach a certain point in your life...when adding fuel to certain things. I never want to do that."
4. Anthony Hopkins
Anthony Hopkins has been largely absent from Abigail's life, despite the fact that he shares her with his former Petronella. Abigail said once that she only saw Anthony about once a month as a kid, which led to a big fight when she was a teenager. They briefly reconnected a few years later but have now become estranged. He said that despite their estrangement lasting nearly 20 years, he is not interested in reconciling with his ex-girlfriend.
"You know, if someone doesn't want me to be a part of their life, that's fine. I did my best." Do whatever you like. I want to avoid talking about my daughter. I wish her all the best and I'll do everything I can for her. "Those things are done," he said The Telegraph.
5. Michael Douglas
Michael Douglas confesses to being too busy with his career when Cameron was a child, and not being able to be a part of his family. Michael Douglas spent some of Cameron's childhood working all over the world. He also spent time in rehab. He's now trying to make amends for the time he lost.
"I was still in the early stages of my career when I met Cameron. Making movies is a job that takes you around the globe, so in this sense, you were absent." He shared. You were often away working hard. You had to travel a lot because we chose to live outside of Los Angeles for most of our marriage. "My marriage and my family come before my career."
6. John Barrymore
Drew Barrymore is open about the strained relationship she had with her father John Barrymore as a child. She said that she liked him, but she would have preferred to have had a father who "didn't seem so out of the ordinary" and "who was there for her". Drew stated that she often acted as her own parent and realized she could not expect anything from him.
She said, "My father was a drug-addict and he never wore shoes. He was crazy but awesome...He was so cool and fascinating that I knew from a very young age that he wasn't capable of anything bad."
7. Jackie Chan
Jackie Chan is the father of a son, but only his son lives with him. Jackie Chan's daughter Etta is the result of his affair with Elaine Ng Yilei. Etta claims that the actor never played a role in her childhood and she does not even consider him a father.
"He's my biological father, but he doesn't exist in my life." He has never been in my life. I will never consider him a father. "As long as my mother is with me, I do not need my father," said the woman to E! News.
