An Anti-Pinterest Mom’s Honest Review Of A Montessori-Inspired Learning Tool

A young boy standing at a kitchen sink using Piccalio's mini chef convertible helper tower

My family is not something you will envy if you follow me on Instagram or Pinterest. We are usually five minutes late to everything, my kids' hair is often messy, and my beautiful kitchen has lots of stuff on the counters.

It is a great job to keep everything alive and where it belongs most of the time. A little help is always appreciated.

Piccalio's wooden toys and furniture was the first thing that caught my attention. Piccalio's fun, useful products also look great (even though I don't post photos on social media). It was worth a try.

Full disclosure: The product was provided to me for review. However, my opinions are entirely mine.

Pros:

  • It is a passion of mine and my two-year old helped me make breakfast for the whole family every weekend.
  • It is super simple to put together.
  • It's pretty.
  • The table can be converted into a single-person dining room for your child to enjoy whatever culinary creations they have created.
  • It's sturdy.
  • We have new ideas now, so my little one can keep up with the big kids.

Cons:

  • It takes up space.
  • Although it's not cheap, I think it would make a great gift for grandparent (more later).
  • It must be assembled.

My initial reaction

My arch-nemesis, Allen wrench, arrived with my tower on Friday night. My Allen wrench and me go back a long way. We have built many a dollhouse, dresser and other home items together. We don't get along.

This tower came with approximately 20 screws, and it was easy to assemble. It was so easy to put together and the way that the screws were inserted was amazing. It took me 18 minutes to assemble the whole thing.

Reaction of a Two-Year-Old

The tower was unveiled to child #3 the next morning. Although he was excited, he couldn't figure out how to climb in. It's difficult to climb into because of the safety bar at the tower's back. He was excited to reach countertop level once he was in.

My son used the Mini Chef Helper Tower's wooden cutting tool to cut bananas and strawberries.

It was so easy to put together. He loved using the whisk to mix all the ingredients. We've made pancakes together in the past. I have also had him stand on a stool, which is not ideal.

The Icing on the Cake

After he had made the pancakes, i pulled him from the tower and revealed my magic trick (or Piccalio's). This chair can be converted into a table-size and chair for children!

My son was thrilled to have his very own place to eat and relax while I made his delicious culinary creations. My oldest son was also impressed and chose to sit down on the ground with his brother. Sibling bonding time is a win-win. Although I wish you could sit another child at the table, it is just as easy to have him on the ground.

What are the chances of it being used?

We've been using the Mini Chef Convertible Helper Tower for at least one day now. It's great to have a safe place to work and he loves having a job. It takes up space, but it's beautiful to see in the corner. This will hopefully be something he uses until he is five.

Piccalio: More

My Final Verdict

Nine out of ten would recommend it. After the first use, I sent it in a text-chain to my friends with small children.

It's not cheap, but I think it would make a wonderful gift for a grandparent. Even better, a gift for grandparent to allow them to play with and interact with their grandkids. If it could just brush my children's hair and clean the counters, then I would be happy.

Although this is the only Piccalio product that I've tried, I have been wanting to try a few more. Piccalio offers a wide range of wooden toys that will inspire children's imagination while looking great in your home. Here are my current wish lists.
