One TikTok user expressed his disgust at the practice.
The term "Bed Rot" has become a viral phenomenon.
Although TikTok’s latest self care trend has a horrifying-sounding title, “bed rotting” simply means lying in bed for long periods of time. This is something that many teenagers across generations are familiar with.
Gen Z has, of course taken this to a whole new level, and is now promoting "rotting away" in bed as an alternative form of therapy. And hundreds of millions are interested in it.
With over 308 millions views on TikTok bed rot has its own influencers, and self-proclaimed expert.
It does not specify what activities can be performed in bed to qualify as "rotting". Cuddling, watching TV, scrolling down the doomsday list on your phone and other similar activities are considered acceptable, as long as they take place in bed.
Snacking is a popular activity, and it seems to be particularly appealing for those who are recovering from a night out drinking.
Only one other criteria applies: "bed rotting", which is not to be judged, is a judgement-free zone. Perhaps that is the real therapeutic value.
One proponent wrote: "I wish that it was acceptable to say to people this is my hobby."
Another said: "I think my life's purpose is to rot somewhere." My bed, my hotel bed, the sand on the beach, my hammock, etc. "I was made to lie and rot."
