Their lawyer acknowledged that their "recollection" of certain events was inaccurate.

Brian Laundrie's parents changed the story of their son's disappearance.

Roberta and Chris Laundrie initially told police that Brian had gone for a hike at the Carlton Reserve on Tuesday September 14. Steve Bertolino, a family attorney, says that he left the day before.

Bertolino stated that the Laundries based Brian's departure date on their memories of certain events.

"After further communication with FBI and confirmation that the Mustang was at Laundrie's residence on Wednesday, September 15, we now believe that Brian left the preserve to hike on Monday, Sept. 15. 13.

According to police timelines, Brian only returned to Florida on September 1. Gabby Petito's family claims they didn't know this and reported Gabby as missing Saturday, September 11.

Instigators were told by the Laundrie family that Brian had left the house carrying a backpack and headed to the Reserve the next Tuesday. They said they searched for him the following day and found his Ford Mustang abandoned with a North Port PD note advising it to be removed.

Bertolino said that they had left the car there Wednesday night so he could drive it back. Brian didn't come back, so Bertolino said that they went to retrieve the car on Thursday morning.

The timeline didn't work out with the confirmation of the Mustang at the Laundrie residence Wednesday.

On Tuesday, it was also revealed that Brian returned to Florida on his own on August 17, five days after Gabby called her family to end their relationship.

Bertolino claims that Brian flew commercially from Salt Lake City, Utah to Tampa on August 17 and returned to Salt Lake City on the 23rd to "rejoin Gabby."

Bertolino stated that Brian flew home to get some items, and to empty the storage unit in order to save money. They also considered extending their road trip.

He said that Gabby and Brian paid for the flights, as they were sharing expenses.
