Caitlyn Jenner Defends Dave Chappelle Amid Netflix Special Controversy

Caitlyn Jenner Defends Dave Chappelle Amid Netflix Special Controversy

"Dave Chappelle is 100% right."

Caitlyn Jenner will defend Dave Chappelle. Dave Chappelle was recently under fire for making jokes about transgender people in his Netflix comedy special "The Closer".

The reality star, who is transgender, took to Twitter on Wednesday to voice her opinion about the controversy surrounding Chappelle. Jenner, 72 years old, expressed her support for Chappelle (48), blaming the backlash to "woke cancel culture".

She tweeted, "Dave Chappelle 100% right." "This is not about the LGBTQ movement. It's about the woke cancel culture running amok, trying silence free speech.

She said, "We must not yield or bow before those who want to stop us speaking our minds."

The tweet was sent by the ex-california gubernatorial candidate. It featured a clip from Chappelle’s comedy show appearance over the weekend. In it, he spoke out about the controversy surrounding his special and said that the uproar is not related to the LGBTQ community but rather stems from "corporate interests." He denied that he turned down an invitation to speak to Netflix's trans staffers. However, he said that he was open to doing so.

"It has been reported in the media that I was invited by Netflix to speak to transgender employees. I declined. Chapelle stated to the audience that this was not true, as you can see in the video clip. "If they had invited us, I would have accepted. However, I'm not sure what you are referring to. I did what I said, and boy, did I hear what you said. How could I? You stated that you wanted a safe environment for Netflix employees. It seems that I'm not the only one who can't get to work anymore.

Chappelle called out the media for portraying him as being against the LGBTQ community. He said, "That's not how it is." "Do not put the blame on the LBGTQ [sic] communities for any of this s ---.. They have nothing to do.

He said, "It is about corporate interests and my ability to say and not say what I want." You should know that everyone I know in this community has been supportive and loving, so I don’t know what this nonsense is all about.

Chappelle went on to relay his message to the transgender community. "I am more than willing give you an audience. But you won't summon me. He said that he would not bow to anyone's demands, but he did list his conditions. These included the requirement that they have seen his special "from start to finish" and the right to pick the place and time.

Chappelle closed the show by asking his audience, "Am I canceled or not?" The crowd responded by roaring "No!"

Chappelle made controversial remarks about transgender people in "The Closer", including saying he was on "team TERF," which stands for "trans-exclusionary radical feminist."

There was a lot of outrage after the release of the special, especially among transgender viewers and staffers at Netflix. Many trans Netflix employees protested Chappelle's special, as well as Ted Sarandos (the streamer's chief executive officer), who continued to defend Chappelle.

Variety reports that Sarandos sent two memos earlier in the month to Netflix employees. The first was sent to the top leadership, while the second was sent to all staff. Sarandos stated in the second email that the stand-up special would be kept on the platform as it didn't "directly translate to real-world harm."

According to TMZ, he later apologised for the way his emails were interpreted and admitted that he had "screwed up". Sarandos maintained his position that the special was not causing any real harm or containing hate speech. The special will not be removed from the platform, he also stated.
