These images definitely have some references to earlier films.
Which scary film is your favorite? It's difficult to top "Scream", but the filmmakers behind "Scream 2" hope you enjoy the sequel.
Entertainment Weekly received a preview of new photos from the film's upcoming movie. The images show Neve Campbell, CourteneyCox, and David Arquette returning to Woodsboro to confront Ghostface for another round.
EW revealed that the film will be about a new killer who wears the Ghostface mask to target teenagers in order to resurrect secrets from Woodsboro’s past.
One photo shows Neve's Sidney Prescott and Cox's Gale Weathers. Another shot shows Arquette's Dewey. The third photo shows us another returning face: Marley Shelton’s Judy Hicks. She made her debut in the fourth movie, which was released in 2011.
The new cast features Jenna Ortega, giving us Drew Barrymore flashbacks. Melissa Barrera is seen at what appears to have been Stu Macher’s house from the original film. Costars include Jack Quaid Jasmin Savoy brown, Mason Gooding and Mason Gooding. Dylan Minnette, Kyle Gallner and Kyle Gallner. Wes Minnette, whose character is named Wes is a nod to franchise director Wes Craven who died in 2015.
EW spoke with Tyler Gillett and Matt Bettinelli Olpin, who said that it was "a wild anxiety-producing environment" while they waited for the returning trio of actors to sign on to the film. The script was written with them in "not disposable roles," according to EW.
Gillett stated that "they were very, very essential and the heartbeat for what was great about this script." "We couldn’t imagine the movie without them, so it was scary not to have that locked in right away."
With Kevin Williamson's involvement in executive production, they were able to relax into the idea of returning. Williamson was the one who wrote the original and two sequels. Campbell said that directors also wrote her a letter "reporting their admiration and great respect for Wes Craven and referring to the fact that these movies and Wes are the reason they are directors today, which meant a lot to me."
Cox recalled Craven's passing, "From the moment I walked onto the set I felt extremely emotional and felt an overwhelming longing and missing for him." He had a special, kind, caring quality that was unmatched by his extraordinary talent as a filmmaker. Wes was someone I looked up too, both professionally and as a friend. The way Matt and Tyler have revived the franchise is something Wes would love.
Arquette said that he could feel Craven’s "energy" while on set.
The trailer will drop this week. The film will release January 14, 2022. Keep checking back!
