Oppenheimer's story was "essential" to the legendary director, according to him.

Christopher Nolan talks about his first sex scenes in Oppenheimer. This is his first R rated film since 2002's Insomnia.

Nolan told Insider that sex scenes are an "essential" part of Oppenheimer's story.

J. Robert Oppenheimer, ( Cillian Murph ) had a relationship before and after his marriage with Kitty ( Emily Blunt ). Nolan says that his relationship had "enormous ramifications" for his future life, as Tatlock was a Communist Party of the United States of America member.

The director said: "When you examine Oppenheimer’s life and his story, you will see that this aspect, his sexuality, how he treated women, and the charm he exuded is an important part of the story."

Nolan continued, "It was important to me that I understand their relationship." Nolan continued, "It felt very important to understand their relationship."

He said he felt "appropriately nervous" when asked about the reaction of his audience. The director spoke about his experience of crossing into uncharted territory with his films.

Nolan revealed that "any time you are challenging yourself to work on areas you haven’t worked before, you need to be appropriately nervous, appropriately careful and plan and prepare."

Oppenheimer was released from its review embargo on Wednesday. The film opened with a Rotten Tomatoes score of 94 percent. These scores may change as new reviews are published, but Oppenheimer still outshone Barbie which is currently at 90 percent.

Barbie is set to compete with Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer at the box office on this weekend. The phenomenon has been dubbed "Barbenheimer" by the Internet.

But thousands of moviegoers have decided to see a double feature, despite the fact that they are not able to choose between two very different films.
