Lil Nas X has a fan: Dolly Parton

On Wednesday, the country legend shared her reaction to the rapper covering her hit song "Jolene" on social media. The 22-year old "Industry Baby", rapper, performed the song last week as part of BBC 1's Live Lounge series.

For the performance, the rapper wore a white faux-leather button-up with a short sleeves and a diamond butterfly necklace. The set was in keeping with the theme of his debut album, "Montero", and featured wildflowers as well as X singing into a rhinestoned mic.

Parton tweeted, "I was so excited that someone told me Lil Nas X had performed my song #Jolene," and shared the original post of Parton with video. "I had to immediately find it and listen it...and it is really good."

"Ofcourse, I love him. The country singer, 75 years old, said that he was shocked and that he was a great person. "I wish he does well for us both. @LilNasX, thank you.

Parton posted the same caption to Instagram as well, a photo of Parton and Parton backstage at 2019 CMA Awards.

The rapper "Industry Baby", retweeted her shoutout, adding the words "HOLY S.--T."

Andy Cohen, Sirius XM's Andy Cohen Live host this week, told him that he hadn't planned to sing "Jolene" originally.

"We were originally going to do a Nirvana track, but then we were just kind of playing around with it and doing 'Jolene' , it was like, wait, a minute. Imagine if we actually did "Jolene". Lil Nas X stated.

He said, "And it feels like the context to it changes like you just stated, and I was like, "Oh, that would be really cool." I agreed to it. Hey, I like my country's history. Then I thought, "This is great!"

Elle spoke with Parton in 2019 about the possibility of appearing on "Old Town Road," the rapper's hit song. Parton declined the offer, but she was still hopeful that she would be able to work with him on another project.

She said, "I had the opportunity to be part in that [song], but it had done well with so many people."

Lil Nas X has released several remixes to the track, including ones featuring BTS, Billy Ray Cyrus and Diplo. "I thought, "Well, I'll wait, and do something later. There's no point going down the same Old Town Road. There are other routes to take.
