Dylan Mulvaney Details Mental Health Impact of Misgendering After Bud Light Backlash

Dylan Mulvaney Details Mental Health Impact of Misgendering After Bud Light Backlash

Mulvaney said, "Dysphoria is a feeling of darkness that washes you over."

Dylan Mulvaney has revealed that the negative reaction to her recent partnership between Bud Light and transgender people "really wore [her] down."

Mulvaney partnered with Bud Light to create a custom can of the beer that featured her likeness. Social media users from the conservative side of the political spectrum criticized and called for a boycott of this post.

Mulvaney admitted that the experience was "heartbreaking" in an interview she gave to Chelsea Handler last week on her podcast "Dear Chelsea."

Mulvaney stated, "I think that a lot these haters do not realize the mental effects of misgendering media." It breaks my heart, because I know that there are people who call me a male and I am not processing it right now.

She said, "I was so afraid to dive deep and know the consequences."

"Dysphoria is a feeling of darkness that washes you over and those moments when I felt misgendered made me sad."

Mulvaney went on to say, "But they came for you Chels, and I thought 'Oh, my God, this is my favourite woman in the world, and the people who are coming for me, are also coming for her'." Mulvaney then continued. "Something clicked, and I thought, 'Oh, my God, perhaps what they're claiming isn't truthful.' Because I'm watching them take someone out I love, and I know her story and I stand behind her and love her, so maybe the same for me." Mulvaney continued.

She said, "It is almost easier to talk about someone else and not yourself. I love and enjoy them and although we haven't met I was able see your experience."

Various media outlets report a 21,4% drop in Bud Light's sales since the ad. Miller Light and Coors Light, however, are both up by 21%.

According to reports, a number of gay bars stopped serving Bud Light because the brand had "abandoned" Mulvaney in the face of conservative backlash.

Anheuser-Busch has been boycotted by the 2Bears Tavern Group in Chicago, which owns four gay bars.

Anheuser-Busch dropped its support for Mulvaney after some customers made ignorant and hateful comments. This shows how little the company cares about the LGBTQIA+ and transgender communities, which have been relentlessly attacked in the United States.

The article continued, "CEO Brendan Whitworth’s excuse that Anheuser-Busch ‘never intended to participate in a discussion that divided people’ was tantamount of saying that the safety and rights of transgender individuals are worthy of debate."

Anheuser Busch told Fox News Digital that it remains committed to programs and partnerships that have been forged with organizations over the years to help drive economic prosperity in a variety of communities. This includes the LGBTQ+ community.
