Escaped Murderer Danelo Cavalcante 'Squeezed' Through Police Perimeter, Spotted In New Trail Cam Images

The killer, who was sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of his ex-girlfriend, escaped after only a few hours. According to prosecutors she was stabbed a total of 38 times when she discovered that he had been wanted in Brazil for another murder.

The manhunt for convicted killer Danelo Cavalcante has expanded, as Pennsylvania State Police revealed Tuesday new trail cam photos proved he slipped through their previously-established perimeter.

Cavalcante, who escaped last Thursday from Chester County Prison, has sparked a search for the man who was convicted this summer of murdering his former girlfriend in 2021. According to prosecutors the 33-year old stabbed Deborah Brandao a total of 38 times when she discovered he was wanted in Brazil for another murder. He allegedly murdered her in front her two children.

The authorities set up an initial search area of two miles around the prison. has since expanded the grid, after a trail cam south of the original perimeter captured images of Cavalcante Monday night.

"He was trying to escape, and that's exactly what he did," said Lt. Col George Bevins, of the PA State Police during a Tuesday press conference . "He found a place where he could squeeze past that perimeter, and he went south."

Bevins added, "You are dealing with someone desperate who doesn't wish to be caught." He's a bad man. We're determined that he be taken into custody.

"Obviously, I would have liked to have captured him without him escaping that perimeter but this is also not shocking," said he. It's dark and a big area. It's not an excuse, it's simply difficult terrain.

Cavalcante, a man in long pants, a backpack and a duffelbag was first spotted by a trail cam at Longwood Gardens at 8:21pm Monday night. About an hour later, at 9:33pm he was seen again, walking south on the same trail camera. He wore a sweatshirt.

Authorities continue to search for him in the area, with 200-250 people reportedly helping on the ground. Residents within a 3-mile radius were warned to lock their cars and homes, and two school districts nearby -- Kennett Consolidated and Unionville-Chadds Ford -- also closed for the day.

They said that they would "operate based on a Flexible Instructional Day."

The authorities also recorded a message in Portuguese from Cavalcante’s mother, asking her to surrender. Throughout the search, helicopters and vehicles played this message.

Robert Clark , US Marshals, said during a press conference on Monday that "even though he's desperate, he might have a change in mind when he hears his mom telling him to surrender and knows his family is concerned about him." "Perhaps that is what pushes him to the point where he will surrender peacefully," Clark said.

Cavalcante fled from Chester County Prison as he was waiting to be moved to a State facility. At this time it is unclear how he managed to escape. Anyone with information that leads to his arrest will receive a reward of up to $10,000.
