Although it was reported that he and Jennifer Love Hewitt had been in discussions to return to the horror franchise's original series, Prinze Jr. said he didn’t know much about the film until the news of his possible involvement broke.
Freddie Prinze Jr. was unaware of Freddie Prinze Jr.'s possible return to "I Know What You Did Last Spring" franchise.
According to reports, Jennifer Kaytin Robinson was working with Leah McKendrick on a sequel to 1997's horror film. Robinson worked recently with Prinze Jr.'s ex-costar from IKWYDLS, Sarah Michelle Gellar, on the 2022 Netflix film "Do Revenge." Initial reports indicated that both Freddie and Jennifer Love Hewitt were in talks to reprise their roles of Ray Bronson or Julie James.
TooFab met Freddie to discuss his horror movie podcast That Was Pretty Scary. The show launches with a discussion about the original IKWYDLS. Freddie said he didn’t know much about the movie until his possible involvement became public.
Prinze Jr. believes that the film's production company "leaked" the news in an effort to "get people hyped up about their movie."
"I was offered nothing, nothing. They said it to get people excited. He continued, "I have not spoken to anyone from their company, and my agents haven’t received any offer from them whatsoever." "I spoke with the director just a few days after announced that, just so I could be like, "Yo, what's the matter? Why is it that they are claiming I will be appearing in a film I'm unlikely to be in? She said, "Let me pitch the idea." She spoke to me about the idea but I haven’t said yes. I haven’t been offered an offer.
"I don't have any reason to lie to anyone. I have no skin to play in this game. TooFab told him that he will only do the things that I enjoy and work with people who I like. There's no room for error this time. "I made a mistake the first time, but this time I want to do things I love."
The movie was a huge success. It spawned "I Still Know what You Did Last Summer," a sequel and a direct-to video movie. There's also a 2022 TV series that has no connection to the films. Freddie admitted that he hadn't read a script in the latest attempt to revive this franchise but he opened up about what he wants to see in a movie set all these years later.
"I would like to see it based in reality. I don't believe we need anything supernatural. He said that he wouldn't like to see someone return to life. "I don’t like it, it just makes it feel like old '80s movies such as 'Soapdish.' It’s like Ben Willis said, 'I’m back again, twenty years older, can’t move that well, arthritis. They should find something organic and base everything on reality.
Gellar also expressed some of these sentiments recently, saying that Helen Shivers' character would not be returning in the movie. Jennifer was able to understand that I am dead. I am dead dead. ET told her that she was on ice, and then also mentioned the "Soapdish” comparison.
"I Know What You Did Last Summer was a great game because it allowed four different perspectives to be expressed on a terrible event. You felt anger from Barry [Ryan Phillippe], guilt from [Hewitt], fear from Sarah, and regret from me. All Kevin Williamson. It was four people sharing their emotions, and each one was relatable in a different manner. That is what made it so special," Freddie said.
"I don’t know if they’re going to have 4, 5, 10, or no children, and I don’t know what they’re going to do with them." He said that he hoped it would remain grounded in reality. I believe that this is the best way to experience horror. Or you must fully embrace the Freddy Krueger aspect of it all. They're great, and they're one of my favourite movies. But they're also ridiculous. You can either lean in all the ways or just part of it.
Prinze Jr. said that Freddie was a possibility and Sarah was an obvious no.
They killed Mekhi Phifer, [I Still Know star] right? He added, "They killed Jack Black. I don't believe that he killed Jack Black. "Only Brandy, Love, and I survived, that's all. "I got both the boys and the girls, no boys!"
Wondery+ subscribers can now access the first episode of Freddie's That Was Pretty Scary podcast. The podcast will also be available to all other podcast listeners on March 15.
