According to the actor, "using the knife was not a smart idea" and the injury was accidental.
According to police, a haunted house actor from Ohio was charged with negligent assault for stabbing an 11 year-old boy.
Christopher Pogozelski (22 years old) told authorities that he switched from his fake prop knife to a Bowie knife during his shift at 7 Floors of Hell at the Cuyahoga County Fairgrounds in September.
Karen Bednarski, the boy's mother, said that her son was playing with the knives and scraping them on the ground. My son told him, "I'm not afraid. Your knife is fake." The man replied, "Oh, it's true." It's real, I swear. He began to poke it at his feet several times, until he finally stabbed him.
The boy suffered a laceration to his big toe from the knive as it sliced through his Croc sandals.
According to the police report Pogozelski acknowledged that using the knife was not a smart idea and that the injury was accidental and that he did not intend to inflict any injuries on anyone.
"I'm very upset," Bednarski said to news5Cleveland. She also stated that she doesn't believe it was an accident.
The alleged reactions of the employees were even more disturbing to the mother.
She explained to the outlet that "they just kept saying accidents happened, accidents happen." Bednarski claims that they initially denied medical treatment to the boy, saying they weren't certified to give first aid.
The haunted house workers eventually cleaned the wound and bandaged the foot, so Bednarski and her child could continue the attraction. According to Bednarski, she completed the haunted house in order for her son to have a happy and memorable experience after such a "traumatic" experience. Night Scream Entertainment still plans to sue Bednarski, who owns 7 Floors of Hell.
Rodney Geffert (Night Screams president) defended Pogozelski following his firing of the freelancer. Geffert stated that it wasn't an accident. Geffert said that the actor was always by the boy's sides.
Geffert stated that the company has a strict policy regarding actors touching attendees and that they must use fake props only. He claimed that Pogozelski had changed the knives without company knowledge. He told The Post that it was not his fault.
Geffert spoke with news5Cleveland and said, "The police took my knife and I made it clear with him that you don't get anything out of your car." That's not what we do.
Lt. Tom Walker, Berea Police Department said that he couldn't understand why he brought the knife. He should have used a rubber or fake knife. It was clearly a bad decision by him to bring a knife to the fairgrounds. He was also criminally charged for negligent assault.
Pogozelski's mother was also the owner of the Bowie knives. Police also stated that Pogozelski requested the knife back. The knife will then be released from police custody after she made a request.
