William Petersen returns to the franchise that made him famous. Petersen is back at the crime scene after years of being absent from CSI. CSI Vegas will bring him back after many years. Ever wonder why Petersen went? Why is he coming back so many years later? Let's find out what's happening.

What happened?

Petersen was a familiar face of CSI over the years. After the ninth season of CSI, Petersen left the show in 2009. He only made a few appearances in the six subsequent seasons. It's been a decade filled with drama and cult movies. But it's still strange to think that the show's face and executive producer would just walk out during its run.

It was Getting 'Rote.

Petersen spoke with EW in 2009 about his impending departure from the show. Petersen stated that he was leaving because he fears he's becoming too comfortable. Although the money was amazing, it is tiring to do anything for nine years. He said almost smugly, "I won’t miss Grissom...and i hope that the audience won’t either."

Petersen was able to accept $600,000.00 per episode. He also left the possibility of a return open at all times. He said, "He didn't die in a plane crash, he didn't get a brain tumor. He's out there." It took only eleven years for Petersen and Grissom to return.

He Forgot Grissom

The world has changed so much since 2021. The world is vastly different today than it was in 2000, when CSI first appeared.

Petersen was keen to return to science because of this. It's also different because it's twenty years later. It's new because there are so many people, and that's very exciting."

Petersen felt moved to return to the show to see where his character and that of Jorja Fox would be a decade later. They both admitted that they had some rust but sound excited about the experience. CSI Vegas will air ten episodes and begin later in the week. With a few surprises, old faces from CSI's history will also be back.
