She wrote: "Everyone decided that we could separate art from artist whenever it was convenient." This is a reiteration of her criticisms of the Met Gala's theme for this year.
Jameela Jamil has expressed her frustration and disappointment with those who attended the 2023 Met Gala and covered it.
The "She-Hulk' star was very vocal about her disapproval of the theme, which honored the late Karl Lagerfeld. She has also been critical of him and the decision to honor him at the annual event when it was announced.
She reaffirmed her position after a parade still attended the event on Monday. She also called out the media for covering the event and the "spectators" who ogled the different looks in the photos. Lagerfeld, who died at the age of 85 in 2019, was criticized for his controversial views and comments, such as those about the #MeToo Movement, sexual assaults, migrants, and LGBTQ rights. He was also accused of Islamaphobia and, most importantly, fatphobia.
Jamil wrote: "Last evening, Hollywood and fashion made the silent part loud and clear when many famous feminists chose the highest level to celebrate a man that was publicly cruel to women and fat people and immigrants and sexual assault survivors." "And all women's magazines, and online spectators, chose to gleefully disregard it."
She continued, "Suddenly, your appetite for finding someone's tweets when they were 12 years old has disappeared." "Nobody is perfect, least of which me. But Jesus Christ, we had a whole year to correct this course and not give the highest award possible to a bigot. And everyone decided that we could separate the art and the artist whenever it was convenient."
She concluded her message by saying: "There's a rule for us, and another for everyone else." We relinquished the right to be taken seriously last night about any important issue.
In her caption she elaborated on her decision to speak up -- saying that her post was not really about "cancel-culture" or Lagerfeld, but rather meant to highlight how "selective cancellation culture is within liberal political, in the most obvious way so far."
It's to show why people don’t trust liberals. She continued, "Due to slippery tactics and double-standards like this." It's not only Hollywood, but the public on the internet also participated in the erasure and distorted the truth of last night. Last night they replaced their pitchforks for spoons to eat up that crap.
She concluded her post by warning that if we continue on this path, we will lose the next elections.
Sara Haines, who appeared on "The View," said that she did not feel like the topic was honoring the man since he is dead. She added that "it's honoring art." "It does not excuse it. It doesn't make the awfulness any less horrible, but I believe humans are very multifaceted and layered."
Alyssa Griffin said that "every major designer house has some sort of problematic past," and she is focused on the "advances they've made to try and correct those wrongs" now.
Whoopi Goldberg stated that she loved a lot Lagerfeld's works and, while she could also "hate" what he stood against, she believed he had "tried to change" his life later on. She joked, "But I'm not sure, I didn’t spend much time with him. I was too fat for him."
Anna Wintour of Vogue, on the other hand, hasn't spoken about this controversy.
