"I warned you in 1984!" The director referred to his movie Terminator. "And you didn't listen."
James Cameron does not believe that AI can write a good script for a movie.
Recently, the director spoke to CTV News about his opinion on AI and screenplays. He also explained why he believes they will not succeed.
Cameron said, "I don't believe that I can trust a disembodied brain that regurgitates what other embodied heads have said about their lives, love, lying, fear, mortality, and then combines it into a word-salad and regurgitates it." "I don’t think that will ever have anything that is going to move an audiences." "You have to be a human to write something like that."
Cameron added that "he does not know anyone who is even considering having AI write screenplays."
The Avatar Director noted that filmmakers "should wait 20 years and take AI seriously if they win an Oscar for the best screenplay."
Cameron is not concerned about the use of AI in screenplays.
The Canadian filmmaker said, "You have to follow the money." "Who is building these things?" You can either build it to dominate the market share, and teach it greed, if you want, or you can build it defensively, and teach it paranoia, if you want. "I think that the weaponization AI is the greatest danger."
Cameron continued, "I believe that we'll get into a nuclear arms-race with AI. If we don't develop it, then the other guys will. It'll escalate." You could imagine an AI fighting in a battle theatre. The computers would be so fast that humans wouldn't have the ability to intervene.
