"My mom always dreamed of becoming a famous actor, and she became obsessed with making sure I was a star."

Jennette McCurdy shared the shocking truth about what really happened during her time as a child-star.

McCurdy claimed that she was subject to "intense" emotional and physical abuse by her mother from childhood until her twenties.

McCurdy's story was the subject of her one woman dark comedy play, "I'm glad My Mom Died," she described as "thought-provoking." After a 17-year battle against cancer, Debbie McCurdy, the former actress, died in 2013.

McCurdy, 29 years old, said that even though the story may seem bleak and boring, it has a richness to it. "Life can be messy and dark. There is no perfect life.

McCurdy was raised by Debbie and Mark. McCurdy stated that her "earliest childhood memories" were filled with chaos and heaviness.

"My mom's mood swings were so unpredictable that it was almost like she was walking on a tightrope every single day." She recalled that mood swings were common. She shared with Nickelodeon that she witnessed her parents fight as a child and that her mother would often become violent in her outbursts.

McCurdy, who starred in "iCarly", as Sam Puckett and then reprised that role in "Sam & Cat," said her mom when she was just 6. She turned her attention to McCurdy's career and McCurdy.

McCurdy said that her mom dreamed of becoming a famous actor, and became obsessed with making McCurdy a star.

McCurdy admitted that she was "cripplingly timid" and auditioned for roles. She then started acting for her mom. She explained that she felt her job was to preserve peace. "I wanted to make my mom happy."

McCurdy's mother became increasingly obsessed with McCurdy over the years, according to the actress. McCurdy, then 10, allegedly started bleaching her hair and whitening her teeth. McCurdy previously stated that her mother made McCurdy restrict her calories at 11 years old. This eventually led to McCurdy developing an eating disorder. McCurdy struggled with anorexia a few years later when she was cast as "iCarly"

PEOPLE reported that Debbie McCurdy also performed breast and vaginal exams. She wouldn't let Debbie shower by herself until she was 17.

"I know that if my mom was alive, I would still have an eating disorder. McCurdy explained that it was only being away from my mom that allowed me to become healthy. She also said that her Debbie's control had made her "so repressed, delayed developmentalally".

McCurdy began having sex after her mother, who died of breast cancer, in 2013. McCurdy also took her first drink of alcohol, and also purge herself for the first time. This led to years of struggle with alcoholism and bulimia. McCurdy went on to make a "change" and focus her efforts on that. After undergoing therapy, McCurdy was able to overcome her eating disorders.

McCurdy stated, "It's risky to change your life. But I made it my mission."

She added, "I didn't know how to find myself without my mom." "I'm not going lie. It was hard work to get there. It was very difficult, but now I am at a point in my life I would never have imagined possible. And now I feel liberated."

McCurdy spoke out earlier this year about her decision to quit acting. She had quit many years ago. McCurdy has since moved into writing, directing and her own one-woman show. McCurdy is currently working on a memoir. It will be the same title as her dark comedy play "I'm glad my Mom Died."
