Lawrence, in a recent interview with Cameron Diaz, discussed how her motherhood has impacted her view of her career and fame.
Jennifer Lawrence shared a rare look into her motherhood while talking with Cameron Diaz in a new Interview profile.
Lawrence and her husband Cooke Maroney welcomed their son Cy in February 2022. She revealed that this moment in time has altered the way she views both her career as well as fame in general.
Diaz asked Lawrence if she wanted to spend more of her time at home now that she is a mom, or if it was easy for her to "squeeze a project in here and there" when she had other responsibilities.
There's no squeeze when you have a child. "There's only home and it's best," said the The Hunger Games alum. It definitely helps to weed out project: "Yes. No. Yes. No. Yes. No. "Is it worth leaving my child alone for half the day?"
She also added that her husband was "the greatest dad in the world," making it easier for her. Lawrence joked, "When I'm gone, I feel no more guilt than I do every day.
Diaz continued the conversation by asking if she thought she would still be working in the film industry when her son reaches adolescence, or if "dipping out" was something she could see herself doing at any time. Diaz has, of course stepped away from the spotlight quite a lot in recent years in order to focus on family life, with Benji Madden, and Raddix, their daughter. She is now set to return acting in an upcoming Netflix movie titled, coincidentally, Back in Action
I think about dipping in and out of the pool a lot while working. I think, "I won't be doing this forever." I'm tired. Lawrence started. Then, after a few months, you come back, read something fantastic, and suddenly you are like, "Oh my God, I must make this." "I don't think I can answer this question."
She said that she had given much thought to "having a kid that is born into a different lifestyle than his friends," adding that children are born with "advantages and disadvantages" of all kinds. All she can do, she added, is "make sure he knows that he is loved and that he has our top priority and that we're always there for him, as well as try to set a good example in kindness."
Lawrence said that there would be challenges, "specifically from my choices and lifestyle," but that they will "have to face that and deal with that when that day comes."
J-Law, after Diaz complimented the actress for "doing a great job protecting" her child, said that she was "so anxious when I was pregnant," and cited the paparazzi attention sometimes received in New York.
"I thought, 'How in the world am I going to not lose it when these guys are taking pictures of my baby'?" She said that she initially thought, but then shared how her perspective changed after having a baby.
Then, once he arrived, I realized my energy was more important than anything to him. She explained that if he senses that I am anxious or angry before we leave the house or when we are outside, it will affect him. It's done the opposite. I'm a bit more relaxed and zen when I get photographed because I have no choice. Accept it and take a breath. Then walk. "I don't want my anxiety and anger to be passed on to him."
