After backlash, Leventhal stated that "In no way was it my intention to offend anyone"
Kelly Dodd, Rick Leventhal were criticized by their own followers for dressing up in insensitive Halloween costumes.
Fox News reporter posted a photo of them Sunday showing their faces while captioning it: "Kelly celebrated Native American heritage and I celebrated Alec Baldwin, the great American film actor #happyhalloween."
Fans quickly condemned the couple, who held up their guns, accusing them of mocking the Indigenous community. Levelthan was also accused of appearing to laugh at the tragic accident shooting death on Baldwin's set of "Rust."
One user commented on Leventhal's post, "You two don't have any class." You are perfect for each others," -- another user wrote, "So disappointed by the Alex Baldwin comment. He was not at fault. A family lost their mother, and their wife. So disrespectful."
"I thought it was impossible to be worse than Kelly, but you did. A family lost their loved ones and you find that hilarious. Another asked.
One follower said, "Keep it classy." Yikes. You are a shame to me."
One follower said to Dodd: "Maybe you go see an elder/healer if your Navajo, because you got some healing. I say sister as a fellow Indigenous kwe. A true traditional person wouldn't make fun of ceremonial attire, especially in a setting where alcohol is involved. This is very disappointing.
"Kelly Dodd you are obviously not connected with your culture. Otherwise, you would be able to see how disappointing and hurtful this is. We are not a costume. "Unfollow," wrote another.
Dodd claimed that she was part Native American in January 2021 after she took a 23 and me genetic lineage test. E! E! I don't see people of color. I see people. That's all.
Dodd posted another photo from their night out and wrote, "For you hateers, I embrace our Native American heritage." The fashion is beautiful and this was a celebration.
They also made a long statement to Page Six, in which they defended both their costumes.
"In no way did I intend to offend Alec Baldwin. Leventhal said that Baldwin is a jerk who deserves all the attention he gets. "We planned our costumes weeks in advance and I decided to play him at the very last moment. There would be no Halloween if we didn't analyze every costume to see who might be offended. Kelly's daughter dressed as a maid. This is offensive to the service sector? Although I sympathize with the victim's family, this wasn't about them.
He said, "If Baldwin was anti-gun, why is he waving them about in movies and pointing at people and pulling the trigger?" You should focus your anger on him and the hypocrisy in that industry.
Dodd said that people are generally "way too sensitive"
"I embrace my Native American heritage. The fashion is beautiful, and this was a celebration and tribute to it. She said that she has heard support from native Americans, and most of those who hate me are "woke" people who don't have native blood like her. It's no surprise that people are constantly looking to criticize anything I do. By the way, I have received lots of love on Instagram and appreciation for my work so thank you!
