Mama Accuses Stealing 22-Year Old Daughter's Identity for College. Get Loans.

For two years, the 48-year old lived with her daughter.

Missouri mother, 48, has confessed to stealing the identity of her 22-year old daughter and pretending to be her for 2 years.

Laura Oglesby pleaded guilty to intentionally giving false information to Social Security Administration to enroll at university, secure student loans, obtain a driver's licence, and even date men half her age.

Mountain View Police Department Chief Jamie Perkins stated that "everyone believed it". "She had boyfriends who believed she was 22 years old, and they were her friends."

Oglesby was charged with Financial Fraud and embezzlement exceeding $25,000 in 2018. Police posted Oglesby's mugshot on Facebook asking for victims.

Investigators found that Oglesby was eligible for $9,400 federal student loans and $5,920 Pell Grants. He also received $337 for books purchased from the university's bookstore.

Police in Arkansas were the ones who first began searching for her. After spending nearly three years trying unsuccessfully to find her, they finally contacted Mountain View authorities, 40 miles away, claiming that they believed she was there living under a false name. She was then discovered by local police working in a library under the name Lauren Ashleigh Hays.

Chief Perkins stated that she was actually employed here. "That's how we found out who she was."

After being pulled over at a traffic stop she claimed to be Laura Oglesby, but police later proved her innocence. After being pulled over during a traffic stop, she denied that she was Laura Oglesby -- until police provided proof.

Chief Perkins said that she claimed she ran because she was in a domestic abuse relationship. She'd been running for many years.

He said, "We don’t know her life story beyond what she told us." But we do know what happened here.

"She lived that way for a few years, and it basically ruined her credit score."

Detective Stetson Schwien was responsible for finally locating her.

He said that she had adopted a younger lifestyle in clothing, makeup, and personality. "She was a young person in her twenties.

Oglesby even fooled a couple in the area, Wendy Parker and Avery Parker, into taking Oglesby in.

The outlet was told that a woman in the area had reported that a girl was suffering from an abusive relationship. She was visiting the Christos House to find out if they could help her get back on her feet. "We agreed, absolutely.

She was a silly, giddy girl. She was 22 years old, but she acted 17 years older.

"I really try to see the 45 year-old Laura. I hate her." Avery stated that all she can see is Lauren, a 22-year old woman whom I just wanted to help.

His wife said, "If I could send her a message, it would be to tell her that the ones she hurt most, and we're nothing but her children." She did it to her children."

Oglesby could spend up to five years in federal jail after being sentenced. Oglesby must also repay $18k in restitution to Southwest Baptist University and her daughter.
