Meghan Markle has been working hard to convince Congress that family leave paid for is a human rights. She has written an open letter, and she is now calling Congress. Now, she's being accused of using her British title, Duchess of Sussex to advance her agenda. Here are the details.

A Very Popular Stance

A large majority of Americans support some form of paid family leave. Markle is passionate about this cause and is putting her influence to good use. She wrote to Congress last week urging for paid family leaves. She wrote: "I am writing to you in behalf of millions American families, who are using our voices to demand that comprehensive paid family leave not be an area for compromise or negotiation."

Republicans were not happy with Markle's political status. Missouri Representative Jason Smith demanded Markle's royal title be stripped of Markle, telling the Daily Mail that Markle "especially since she insists upon sending this under the pretense that she is the Duchess" It's true Markle signed her letter that way, so it's not inaccurate.

Escalating Action

Markle called Shelley Moore Capito and Susan Collins, two key Republican Senators to lobby for paid parental leaves. Moore Capito claims Markle is leading her calls using "This is Meghan," the Duchess-of- Sussex. Maine Senator Collins stated, "I was happy talking with her, but it's more important to me what people in Maine have to say about paid parental leave."

Many are confused and frustrated. TMZ says it is "odd" for Markle to use her royal title, after all that has happened between her and the royal family. Social media has quickly made this a hot topic, with Markle's critics attacking her for using her title.

It's her right

There is a lot of confusion over how royal titles work and why the royal family doesn't just take them away. Markle's title "Duchess" is now a part her name. The same goes for Prince William, who is called "Prince William". Harry's still in line of succession so he's both a prince and a duke. His wife, Markle, is still a duchess.

It's a British title but it's also her name. It's like signing a letter with the title "doctor" and "PhD." You own it, and can use it however you wish. Markle chose to keep her name on book covers this way, so it's acceptable to use it when calling Senators.

Markle is viewed as evil and incapable of doing right by her critics. It's not surprising that Markle is taking criticism for her use of her name. It's easy for the opposition to divert the conversation from the main issue of paid parental leaves by attacking her.
