McCain wrote: "It is clear that an innovative TV franchise, which was once a pioneer in the industry, has been permanently ruined."
Meghan McCain, former co-host of The View, has once again expressed her dislike for the Max Show.
McCain, in another op/ed piece for the DailyMail blasted the revival of Sex And The City, saying that she was "lured" into the show, which she had criticized previously, by the promise of Kim Cattrall’s return.
"And then, it was over." McCain wrote: "I can't watch one more second of this lazy slop." "No doubt Sarah Jessica Parker and the production team of the schlocky Sex and the Cityreboot knew the howls from super-fans like me who were disappointed with what they did in season one."
McCain then went on to list her concerns with the show. The majority of them were due to -- what she called the "woke" character of the series.
McCain was upset by a scene in which "Miranda, Che, and their breasts were exposed, while they writhed in a hot-tub in Los Angeles, during the middle of the afternoon." McCain also noted that "they" (Che uses plurals pronouns), is reduced to a stereotype.
She then went on to criticize that the intimate scenes were "super kinky", "graphic", and only "defined by sex" between the two couples. It was "ugly" for their relationship to be "solely defined by sex." McCain accused the show, citing the inclusion of more storylines that discussed gender identity and race as "ticking off a checklist" -- calling it "nothing but a 50-year old progressive white woman’s panic attack. A ‘Woke for Dummies’ guide."
McCain did have one wish for the show.
McCain wrote, "If anyone is going to save us it's Samantha." "Unfortunately Cattrall only appears in a small role, which Nixon downplayed as 'a small wave to the fans'."
McCain concluded by saying, "But loyal audiences deserve something better than the echo of the original."
McCain has attacked the show before. She wrote an essay early last year in which she said that the revival's attempts to be inclusive were "clumsy attempts to reformat... into the woke, puritanical time we live in."
"Carrie plays the role of the cisgender women on a podcast, with younger cohosts. One of the co-hosts is, of course, queer and nonbinary. "Because it's boring and un-evolved being a straight, white woman," wrote she.
She concluded her opinion piece with the following sentiment: "Wokeness is the death of everything, and I'm disappointed to inform you that 'And Just Like That" was another victim to Hollywood's attempt to appease a certain audience rather than the one who made it a success in the first instance."
Nixon's response to McCain's criticism was, "We don’t want to see characters like these... comfortable." We want them to be pushed out of their comfort zone. Nicole Ari Parker added, "Comments such as that reveal more about the speaker."
Max will be releasing new episodes of And Just Like That on Thursdays.
