"This was a miracle!"

After their plane crashed, a father and his daughter were miraculously saved. It was all due to the iPad of the teen.

Rescuers were able to locate the pair deep within a Pennsylvania forest by following pings from the device to pinpoint the crash site.

Their single-engine Cessna 150 had taken off from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport just before 8:30 PM, but had disappeared from radar "after a rapid descent" somewhere over Bear Creek Township shortly afterward.

Only two people were aboard the plane: the 58-year old pilot and his 13 year-old daughter.

The U.S. Air Force Rescue Coordination Center located the area where the plane might have crashed. Pennsylvania State Police launched a five-hour search operation through pitch darkness and challenging terrain.

They were able, however, to follow the GPS pings and make a beeline to the exact spot where they found the father, and daughter, who were both huddled together, still alive, but suffering from hypothermia.

"With the assistance of the United States Air Force they were able track a better place on several pings using the cellphone and daughter's iPad of the pilot," Sgt. John Richards said to NBC News. "And the iPad actually led to us right to the crash location."

"The iPad saves the day for both of them. Because they were both outside and suffering from hypothermia, the dad was cuddling her to provide warmth.

According to one rescuer, the odds of finding anyone alive -- or even everyone -- were "very slim."

"This was a miracle. He said that the two people involved were very fortunate.

"You have to deal with the woods and the swamps, hills, rocks, and boulders.

The temperature in the area dropped to 37 degrees overnight. Both were taken to the hospital for treatment. However, they are expected to survive.
