NY Deli: Man arrested for throwing Molotov Cocktail into NY Deli and infusing it with flames

Wild footage shows a man being stopped by a passerby from throwing another bottle into the shop.

On Sunday, Fire Marshals in NYC arrested an individual after he was caught on camera throwing a Molotov Cocktail inside a Brooklyn deli.

Mohamed Abdulla, a deli worker, said that the man, FDNY identified as Joel Mangal (38), was "threatening" him at the store prior to the attack. "He threatened to kill you. I will burn the store. Abdulla stated to CBS that he was going to set fire to the building.

Mangal made good on his promise by stepping out of the store and lighting one "improvised explosive device" before throwing it in the establishment. The terrifying moment that the deli caught fire was captured by the FDNY camera and all those present tried to escape the flames.

Outside camera footage shows Mangal trying to throw another Molotov cocktail in the store. However, a bystander knocks the item out of his hands and it explodes on the sidewalk ( beneath).

Abdulla claimed that he chased Mangal two blocks to a train station. There, he was attacked by his attacker while waiting for police.

"Firefighters were dispatched at 7:53 a.m. to report a store fire. They arrived within three minutes," FDNY stated in a statement. "The quick response enabled Firefighters quickly to bring the incident under control, and to provide medical treatment for one civilian suffering from non-life-threatening injuries."

"Thankfully, there were no deaths here. "The investigation of the Explosives and Arson Task Force, which included our Fire Marshals and the NYPD, led to the prompt arrest of the suspect who threatened our communities' safety by using such an evil and destructive device," said Fire Commissioner Daniel A. Nigro. "FDNY will continue working with federal, state, and local partners to bring to justice those who use flame as a weapon against New Yorkers."

Mangal was charged for Arson, Assault and Reckless Endangerment as well as Criminal Possession Of A Weapon and Criminal Mischief.
