A selection of messages sent by Meghan markle were made publicly available in court. A veteran of the palace claimed that only Prince William could approve this move. Duncan Larcombe (author), a royal expert, also agreed that William was responsible.
The text messages showed that Markle knew that there was a high chance that her father's personal letter could be leaked. She also indicated that she had written the letter with this possibility in mind.
Meghan Markle's Court Victory Sours
After the publication published excerpts from a private letter Meghan Markle sent to Thomas Markle, the U.K. tabloid The Mail On Saturday, Meghan Markle rejoiced in a victory over the publication. Although the case was initially ruled in her favor by the court, The Mail On Sunday appealed after receiving text messages Markle sent to her then-communications secretary Jason Knauf.
Markle expressed frustration at her father's insistence on interviews and the tension that it caused between Prince Harry's family. In an August 2018 text, Markle stated that "the catalyst for me doing this was seeing how much pain it is causing H." His family seems to forget the context even after spending a week explaining the situation to his dad, and then he reverts to asking, 'Can't she just go see him and make it stop?'
Ex-Aids reveal Text Messages
She said, "They fundamentally don’t understand so at minimum by writing H will be capable to say to his relatives... 'She written him a letter and is still doing it.' Although it seems unlikely, it might give my father a chance to pause.
Knauf was the royal aide who accused Markle and two PAs of bullying him. This led to an investigation into Duchess Sussex. The result of the investigation has not been released, despite it being launched at the start of the year. True Royalty TV's The Royal Beat asked Dickie Arbiter, who had previously served as Queen Elizabeth's communications secretary from 1988 to 2000, if Knauf would need Prince William or Kate Middleton's permission to release the text messages.
Prince William and Kate Middleton approve?
Arbiter confidently replied, "I would place my money on it." Duncan Larcombe, royal author, agreed and said, "Lawyers From The Mail On Saturday would approach Jason Knauf knowing these emails existed. That would have been the point. Jason most likely would have traveled to William and Kate. Without their clear knowledge, he would not have collaborated with them."
It is unlikely that Prince William knew that these text messages would reach public. Meghan Markle may not have been too shocked that her father had leaked her letter. It doesn't look like this royal intrigue will end soon. Only time will tell if this appeal is successful and if it causes further division within British royalty.
