Keough admits that there was some upheaval after her mother died, and she also talks about the Graceland legal battle in public as well as where she is with her grandmother.
Riley Keough opens up about her famous family, and where she and her grandmother Priscilla Presley are now following the death of Lisa Marie Presley earlier this year, and the subsequent legal battle regarding Lisa Marie's Estate.
The legal drama Priscilla had with her granddaughter Lisa Marie began in January, just after Lisa Marie's death. Lisa Marie passed awayon 12 January at the age 54 after being rushed into the hospital after a cardiac event. Priscilla challenged a will amendment from 2016 that removed Priscilla's and Lisa Marie’s former business manager Barry Siegel as co-trustees. Lisa Marie replaced them with Riley and Benjamin Keough. Benjamin Keough tragically died in 2020. Riley was then named sole trustee of Lisa Marie's estate which included Graceland.
Priscilla and Riley eventually resolved their dispute regarding the control of Lisa Marie’s trust. TMZ reports that Riley now owns a significant portion of the Elvis Presley Graceland Estate. However, the settlement stipulates that Priscilla can use the estate as her final resting spot.
When my mother passed away, everything was in chaos. Keough, in a new Vanity Fair front story, said that it felt as if the carpet was ripped up and the ground had melted under us. Everyone was in a state of panic, trying to figure out how to move forward. It took just a moment to grasp the complexity of the situation. Our family is a big one, with a lot of business. "I think there was a need for clarity."
She added that "clarity had been achieved" before addressing the current state of her relationship with Priscilla.
"Grandma's happy when you do things with her." They have never been unhappy. "I'm trying not to make it a 20 minute conversation, but I want to find a way of answering this question." she said. "There's been a little upheaval but everything will be back to normal now. She is a beautiful woman and was an integral part of my grandfather's legacy, Graceland. She finds it very important. "He was the love and passion of her life."
Keough, who said that anything suggesting otherwise "would make her sad," is adamantly convinced that all Priscilla wishes to do "is love and protect Graceland, the Presley Family and their legacy" as it is "her entire life".
Keough believes Priscilla, too, will be buried in Graceland. She says a plot "is hers if wants it to be."
She continued by saying, "Sharing Graceland was her idea right from the beginning." Then she added, "I have always beautiful and positive memories of Graceland." It's sad to see that a large part of my family is buried there.
Keough said that she has "gone through a lot of pain" since the death of her mother, and also of her brother Benjamin (who died in 2020), and that "parts of my soul have died. I feel like my heart exploded." She said, however, that "I've strengthened the qualities I have gained through adversity."
Riley, when reflecting on the life of her mother who died, acknowledged that it was not "easy". It was marked by "treachery", "a lack of real love and friends," and "a lack in real love."
People were coming to her from the moment she was born, wanting her for something and not being completely authentic. She added that she had to grow a very thick skin. She was fierce, loyal, loving and kind of like a lioness. That's what I would say because I am her daughter. "She was the best mother."
