Shannon, who reprises the role of General Zod as part of DCEU in the upcoming movie, told Vanity Fair that it was difficult to discuss.
Michael Shannon speaks out on the controversy surrounding Ezra Miller, his "Flash' co-star.
The actor, who spoke with they/them pronouns, shared his views in a recent interview. Miller, who used the they/thems pronouns, was embroiled in a number of legal incidents and controversies last year.
Shannon will reprise his role as General Zod in "The Flash", which is set to hit theaters next year, opposite Miller's Barry Allen/The Flash.
Shannon, 48, was very complimentary of Miller's performance. (The Flash) wrapped up filming in the fall of 2021
Shannon said, "It is difficult to discuss, but I give people a great deal of slack because there are a lot people who have problems in this industry." "Some people have more privacy."
He added: "I feel for anyone who is in the spotlight and gets picked on." "Even though it may be justified, it is still a terrible situation."
Shannon's remarks come after Miller’s turbulent 2022 which saw multiple arrests for their erratic behavior.
Miller apologized in August 2022. He said, "After recently going through an intense crisis, I have now realized that I suffer from complex mental health issues, and I've begun ongoing treatment."
They added, "I apologize to all those I've upset and alarmed with my past behaviour." "I'm committed to doing all the work necessary to return to a safe, healthy and productive phase in my life."
Andy Muschietti (director of "The Flash"), who gave an update to CinemaCon fans last month, confirmed that Miller is now receiving treatment.
Muschietti told ComicBook.com that "Ezra has recovered." He continued, "We all hope that they get well... They are taking steps towards recovery. Although they have mental health problems, they are doing well. "We spoke to them not long ago and they are very committed to getting well."
The first reactions were mostly positive. Multiple critics called the film the best superhero film of all time.
The movie "The Flash" is released. June 16, 2023
