British citizens are adapting to many changes following the death of Queen Elizabeth earlier this month. One of these changes is? The design of the new coins has been revealed.

New Coins Show King Charles Face

The design of the new coins has been revealed by the Royal Mint of Britain. They will begin appearing around December, when the 50-pence coins bearing his face slowly start to circulate.

The new coins have the king's portrait on one side and he facing the left. This is the opposite direction to his mother's face that appears on her coins. The Latin phrase "King Charles III by the Grace of God Defender of the Faith", which surrounds the portrait of the king, is included in the frame.

Chris Barker, Royal Mint Museum, stated that Charles has continued the general tradition in British coinage that the monarch faces in opposite direction to their predecessor.

The design was designed by Martin Jennings, a British sculptor. King Charles approved it. Jennings described his work as "the smallest I have ever created" and said, "But it is humble to know that it will be seen by people all over the world for centuries to follow."

Are Old Coins with The Queen On Them Still In Circulation

The new coin is not the only one that will be appearing in British citizens' wallets. A design was also presented by the Royal Mint for a coin featuring King Charles' portrait and images of his mother.

The Royal Mint website states that they have been making coins for British monarchs for over 1,100 years. Anne Jessopp is the chief executive at the Royal Mint. She stated that "when we first started to make coins that was the only way people could see what the monarch looked like."

Today, there are approximately 27 billion coins bearing the portrait of the former queen. These coins can be used in the UK as long as they are legal tender. They will not be replaced if they are damaged or worn.
