Screech's robot Kevin made an appearance as the cast reunited.
Dustin Diamond's "Saved by the Bell” costars met up in person to film a tribute to the actor and Screech Powers in the second season's Peacock revival.
Although Diamond was not asked to appear on the first season, the show had hoped that he would be included in future seasons. After a long battle with stage four lung carcinoma, the actor, who was 44, died in February. However, his costars Mark-Paul Gosselaar and Elizabeth Berkley, Tiffani Thiessen and Lark Voorhies honored him at the end of Season 2.
Although Screech's fate was not immediately known, viewers were aware of the possibility. Zack Morris (Gosselaar), and A.C. Slater spoke cryptically about how the gang planned to meet up for "the thing in The Max" later. Slater was hesitant to attend the mystery event and told Zack that he didn't know.
Later, Jessie Spano and Slater talked about students coming to Jessie (Berkley), for guidance as they adjust to going back to school after a year away. She reminded him that this generation was more emotionally mature than us. They understand that it's important to share difficult situations with others.
She said, "It doesn’t have to be therapy, it could just be a friend." When we get together tomorrow ...", I think that's when it will be. He cut off her and said he wouldn't likely be attending their reunion. He told her, "You have your own way of dealing with them and I have my."
After seeing Jessie's words live with students at the end of the episode he was able to come around. He told her that he was right and that the only way to get through difficult situations is together.
The episode's final minutes featured Slater and Jessie (Thiessen), Kelly (Thiessen), and Lisa (Voorhies) reuniting in person with their costars after they appeared via FaceTime last year) at The Max where Max revealed Screech’s Spaghetti Burger.
This may be a reference back to an episode from the original series in which Powers made the school go crazy with his "Chef Screech" Super Spaghetti Sauce. He was making it for a Bayside cooking segment. They discovered that his grandmother had taken the recipe from a Betty Crocker book as they were mass producing the sauce. Classic Screech.
Kelly told Screech that Kevin, Screech's robot, brought them their meals. He said that he looked great. "Thanks, I've done some work," replied the robot, while Kelly laughed, "Haven’t we all?"
Slater commented on the burger's "a little strange, but great" while Lisa said, "Kinda, Screech." After a few moments of reminiscing on the past, the group recalled Screech's psychic abilities after being struck by lightning. Zack asked "Why didn’t we stop the Gulf War?" -- and when he won Miss Bayside.
Jessie said, "He was so funny," before Slater agreed, before they all raised their hamburgers to celebrate their friend's passing. It was not mentioned how he died. The episode ended with a sequence of clips that highlighted Diamond's original series.
Season 2 of "Saved by the Bell", is now streaming on Peacock.
