San Diego Comic-Con has been known as one of the biggest annual pop-culture event, with A-listers, first-look trailers, and exciting announcements. SDCC is different this year due to the Hollywood Strike.

SAG-AFTRA joined the Writers Guild of America to protest unfair wages and treatment on July 14, effectively closing down Hollywood. This is the first time in 60 years that both unions protested simultaneously, as SAG and WGA battled against AMPTP.

During the strike it is prohibited for SAG-AFTRA members and WGA to participate in any promotion of their forthcoming films, TV series, and other projects. SDCC is included in this.

The San Diego Convention Center is hosting the convention, which began on Thursday and will continue through the weekend. While there may not be as many stars as in past years, comic and pop culture lovers from around the globe still flock to San Diego. ABC7 reports that 135,000 people are expected to attend.

The famous Hall H, where the popular panels with a star-studded lineup take place, is always completely packed, and thousands more fans are lining up on the outside. This year, however, is different due to the strike and the lack of major studios' presence. TheWrap reports that at least for Comic-Con Day 1 more fans are expected to flock to Hall H.It is unclear whether this will continue throughout the weekend.

This year's Comic-Con seems to have less emphasis on television and film, but more on video games, robotics and technology. Comics is, after all, what Comic-Con really is about.
