The dark Showtime hit "Yellowjackets", has always had a following, but many fans were left shocked by the shocking finale of Season 2. Co-creator Ashley Lyle revealed via Twitter that since then, she's received death threats.
It's hard to deny that "Yellowjackets," a rollercoaster of terror, adrenaline and surprises, is an exciting ride. The Season 2 finale is available on Showtime tonight at 9 pm. The Season 2 finale, which was released on Showtime tonight at 9 p.m. ET, ratcheted up all the show's signature features to a new level.
It's hard to discuss the social media fallout without revealing what actually happened. )
Ashley Lyle, the series' co-creator, posted on Twitter almost immediately after the episode was released for streaming viewers. She expressed her gratitude and praise for the writers, cast, and crew of the show, as well as concern about what she deemed to be a "rites of passage" for the showrunners.
She wrote: "I know that some people enjoyed the Yellowjackets finale." "And some people... didn't (is receiving death threats an obligatory right for showrunners? I can live without that !)."
She then went on to thank the entire crew behind the show and let people feel however they want to. They added that they were "really excited" to continue the story of the f---ed-up women and the men in their circle.
She said, "as quickly as we can," referring to the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers, who are currently dealing a work stoppage by the Writers Guild of America, over a number of issues. However, the main issue is compensation for the constantly changing television landscape. The current strike, which began on May 2, has already affected several productions including Season 3 of Yellowjackets.
"Are you going to get weirder?" Lyle asked her in the thread she was continuing. "Probably! The fallout from *redacted*’s death will affect our (anti-)heroes massively. Will the struggle of our girls to survive (and against themselves) become even more gruesome? Pit Girl is still a story that we have to tell. You betcha!"
Lyle teased events that were not yet fully seen, but had been teased. He also teased the events of the Season 2, which shook the lives of both the Yellowjackets trapped in the woods, as well as the adults who would be reunited at Lottie’s wellness retreat.

After two seasons of anticipation and speculation, the teens finally crowned the Antler Queen. It was not the person anyone expected. It was a moment of absolute devastation.

In an unexpected twist, Lottie's (Courtney Eaton), handed the leadership of the survivors over to Natalie (Sophie Thatcher). Her moment of triumph was soon overshadowed as the group watched their home burn down.
After they ate Javi's (Luciano Leroux) chosen sacrifice in the previous episode, this was the next thing that happened. Coach Ben (Steven Krueger), returned to another horrifying scene of ritual cannibalism. It was soon made clear that Ben could no longer live with his students.
He steals matches and rope and decides to live in the cave that Javi lived in for all those lost months. Natalie even comes with him before telling him that she died in Javi's place.
Shauna ( Sophie Nelisse ), the only person awake when this happened was able save the other survivors. Ben's involvement in the fire or door jamming is not entirely clear, but it was pretty obvious that he stole those matches. He needed matches to light a fire, but was he also trying to solve the problem at the cabin?

Things weren't much better in the present. The women in the present time drew the same cards as they did last week, during the penultimate episode of the 1996 timeline. They were determined to make the sacrifice that the wilderness wanted.
After Lisa (Nicole Maines), disobeyed Natalie (Juliette Lewis), who had ordered that all non Yellowjackets must leave Lottie’s compound, things went horribly awry.
Shauna, played by Melanie Lynskey, was the one who drew it (or in this case the Queen) and she became the hunted. Callie, her daughter (Sarah Desjardins) arrived just in time to save their mother, but the wilderness still got what it wanted.
Lottie wasn't happy with the hunt being aborted, so Natalie pulled out a blade just as Lisa returned. Lisa had a gun pointed at Natalie after she had spotted the danger. Natalie was killed when Misty, played by Christina Ricci, injected a deadly poison into Lisa.
The Actresses Who Lost Their Roles Because They Were 'Too old'
Natalie's story ended unexpectedly, as it began in 1996. She was crowned Antler Queen and died at the same time (jumping forward and backward).
Thatcher, the actress who plays the younger version Natalie, told Variety the loss of Lewis was "heartbreaking" but "it also creates more levels because viewers will keep that in mind."
There's another level to seeing younger Natalie, I think both now and in the future. Thatcher added, "But Juliette was my teacher and she's incredible." To lose her from the show was like losing part of you. It was sad but it will be interesting to watch how the story unfolds.
